Who can answer all these correctly?

1)What can you catch but never throw?
2)What is the longest word in the dictionary?
3)Throw me off a building and I'll live. Throw me in the ocean and I'll die. What am I?(It's an inanimate object;people get confused about that.)
4)What runs but never walks,
Has a mouth but never speaks,
And has a bed but never sleeps?

I saved the best for last:

5)The guy who makes it doesn't need it
The guy who needs it doesn't use it
And the guy that uses it doesn't know it.
What is the object?

If you've heard these riddles before don't say so when you answer. Eventually everyone's going to sum it all up and get the answers right when they don't know and then there would be no point in this forum.

OK, some of you came close.

1)What can you catch but never throw? a cold
2)What is the longest word in the dictionary? smiles
3)Throw me off a building and I'll live. Throw me in the ocean and I'll die. What am I?(It's an inanimate object;people get confused about that) a tissue
4)What runs but never walks,
Has a mouth but never speaks,
And has a bed but never sleeps? a river
5)The guy who makes it doesn't need it
The guy who needs it doesn't use it
And the guy that uses it doesn't know it.
What is the object? a coffin

1 is a cold because you can 'catch a cold'.(Another good answer would be 'bullet.' because you can catch it with your body but you won't be able to throw it - or anything else)
2 is smiles because there is a mile between the 'S's (It can't be mile or miles because you need a starting point and a destination)
3 is a tissue because it floats safely off a building and rips apart in the water
4 is a river because river 'runs', mouth of the river to the ocean, and riverbed or seabed.
5 is a coffin because the guy doesn't make it for himself, the guy needs it for a deceased relative, and the deceased relative needs it but he's dead:biggrin:

Post any and all questions

P.S. how do u get red and orange words?

I would say a treasure box, but its too obvious. Is it a toilet?

It can't sit but it can stand
It can stand an earthquake but it won't sit down after
What is it? (I just made this up now)

I nearly cried when I realised people genuinely didn't know this.

OK, Wraith perpetrated a typo, it should read "A box without hinges..." but even so ... I am physically pained that anyone could not know this.

Really. I'm not having a go in a 'you're so dumb' way, rather a 'how have you been deprived of this?' way. But it's shocking nevertheless!

BTW Wraith, I'm not bluffing, I do know this, but I think I should keep everyone in the dark yet!

Doh! Thanks for pointing that out Red. And yeah, it really is a basic one that I expected folks to nail in the very next post lol.

omg does nobody read Tolkien!

a box without hinges, key or lid
but inside a golden treasure is hid:

EGG!

some other classics:

1. what has roots as nobody sees
is taler than trees
up, up it goes
but in never grows

2. thirty white horses on a red hill
first they champ
then they stamp
then they stand still

3. Voicless it cries
Wingless flutters
Toothless bites
Mouthless mutters

4. Alive without breath
as cold as death
never thirsting, ever drinking
all in mail, never clinking

5. this thing all things devours
birds, beasts, trees, flowers
gnaws iron, bites steel
grinds hard stones to meal
slays king, ruins town
and beats high mountains down

1. a mountain
2. teeth
3. wind
4. fish
5. time

i've read my tolkien

here's a couple more classics:

1. No-legs lay on one-leg,
two-legs sat near on three-legs,
four-legs got some.

2.What goes on four legs in the morning, on two legs at noon, and on three legs in the evening?

3. It cannot be seen, cannot be felt,
Cannot be heard, cannot be smelt.
It lies behind stars and under hills,
And empty holes it fills.
It comes first and follows after,
Ends life, kills laughter.
