My favorite blob to do atm in 7th edition is the following:

Mad Doc Grotsnik, Da Painboss 160 pts
30 man boy blob (27 'Eavy Armor Shoota Boys, 2 Rokkit Boys, Boss Nob w/ Bosspole, Power Klaw, Kombi Rokkit) 382 points
Total: 542 pts

What does this high point blog give you?

An anchor for your army to be built around. I just deploy this mass and march it up field. It is fearless, has FNP, and 4+ armor. Plus it can put out a fairly massive amount of dakka. The blob is very hard to push off anything it decides to sit on and as long as you keep Mad Doc alive it can get tougher as it gets smaller in CC due to his rampage rule.

If the player focuses on it, it leaves the rest of your army to wreck havoc with the enemy, it can soak up an amazing amount of firepower while still putting out decent firepower itself. It also makes a great AA unit due to the fact that Orks really aren't all that bothered with Snapfire rules (Overwatch can be hilarious for the same reason). I have killed multiple fliers with this unit while marching up the field.

I find that the cost of the armor is worth it because of the fnp, you can shave points removing it but I think it pulls a lot of power from the unit.

The 2 rokkits and the kombi rokkit give some threat to high toughness/ armor also. Granted it will miss more often than not but I have killed MCs with them before. The dual Klaws are always useful in CC and the boss pole is for those times when Mad Doc goes down.

TLDR: Rock unit is hard and shooty.

This is a good one to use. It use to work great in last edition too when everyone was worried Nob bikers and then i would plow this down their throats. This is a good blob for relic missions. This type of blob held most of a 1500 point black templares drop pod army for 5 turns before I finally tabled him.

I had forgotten all about this blob but it is making consider taking it again and maybe throwing in a weirdboy so I can jump this mob around and a basic mek with a kustom mega blasta for added punch and to take challenges should some try to challenge out Mad grot or the nob.

This is pretty nasty. Throw units around it that will look scarier and take more attention such as a Morkanaught, Nob Bikers, Kan wall and I, as a guard player, would be distracted by them - particularly the fast moving Bikers who present the greatest threat to my Armies no matter the build. Overlooked, this unit could hold one to two objectives (if closely placed and you don't need both for a particular maelstrom game turn), weather a fair bit of fire, and put the pain on anyone who dared to try and seize things off them.

The thing you would need to do is to find cover for them though, or else my Leman Russ squadrons will blast them to mincemeat with 3 S8 AP3 large blasts a turn, and no huge fear of missing thanks to your size. Does a Mek with KFF grant a bubble from a truck or BattleWagon? You can keep the distraction factor plus have a second objective taker for relatively few points.

Its a mini green tide in effect. I doubt whether it would attract the same amount of firepower as that formation, but I also doubt it could tank the same amount of hits as the GT. It's getting close on points too.
An unenhanced GT is 660 points.
With a Painboy, Warboss with PK & Big Bosspole, and 1 PK Nob you're looking at 796 points.
That's 250 points over that unit, but with 70 more boys. Even without Rampage and EA, that's a lot of extra boyz for your points.

However, when you start adding in Shootas and Rokkits it starts to really pile on the points (859 for 3 units kitted out)
Chuck in some EA and you're talking a whole army in one blob.

Interestingly, your Blob, plus another blob consisting of a warlord BBP, PK and Painboy would mean 2 large, heavy immovable units of Boyz, for about 1000 points (ish) which backed up with some fun combinations from the Heavy lists could give many armies a real headache.
Not very flexible or quick though.

Actually managed to play a game last week for the first time in forever.

Ran this blob, and a 8 man Nob Biker unit all with claws and boss poles. Gave it a pain boy on a bike and let it plunge down the board while the Mad Doc Blob stood on objectives.

I added a min unit of gretchin in a looted kill cannon tank, 15 lootas and 2 3gun Dakka Jets to round out a 1850 list.

The bikes and fliers were dead by the end of turn 5 but the rest of the list was going strong still. The bikes were a good counterpoint to the blob, its stupid ammounts of points but the two of them combined required the Nid player I was against to pick his poison and duke it out.

If I had the models I would prob run a fullly kitted GT list but this works well instead.

I knew I was going against Nids so the list in this post worked but I would not have spurged so hard on the bikes against other things. I think this blob works best if it's supported with a flood of cheap throw away units.

I like the idea but as discussed above by Iraqiel mainly that against particular enemy something like this functions not very well able to be out maneuvered or if they have the correct weapons (high strength large blasts which will cancel out both buffs) while the lack of a high model count such as the green tide which can soak wounds a lot better but costs more.

in some situations this certainly is the return of the old ork blobs of past which will stick in the mud with the best of them. which orks sometimes need. so depending on your needs this kind of idea works great.

Only thought which could possible increase survivability, but again reduces mobility would be to add a boss with mega armour and lukky stick combo for ultimate tanking or just stick him in "eavy armour for the old lethal if you come close hit to tie thing up for the mob before they get there.

thats all

Went against a GK list with this blob and it pretty much folded. Too much high str ap4 or better weapons. Will have to tinker with it and the supporting units before I dare send it against something like that again.

I ran a similar blob (Big Shootas instead of Rokkit Launchas to save points and stick with the theme) a couple weeks back against Eldar to a similar effect as the Grey Knights. The blob disintegrated under ap4 shooting, and even worse when it's RELIABLE ap4 shooting.

The sheer number of shots this blob can put out is intimidating, but it's difficult to find a target that they can kill (maybe that's the point of the Rokkits) because I used the whole blobs shooting against Dire Avengers and took out maybe a third of the squad. Bad luck aside, the number of low strength shooting that this mob provides was underwhelming to me and I can't say with any certainty that this would be a "must-have" unit.

That's why I resist the urge to stack eavy armour on my GT, great against bolter fire, but not much else. FnP is a much more cost effective and useful alternative. If pain boys weren't HQ choices, and we're non-force org like meks, I'd put one in every unit.
