Hi Everyone

After a 14 year hiatus me and a couple of friends are getting back in WH40K again. Ive gone for the powers of Chaos this time round as I love some of the models and how much
variety the whole army has.

Ive purchased the daemon prince and a pack of 12 zerkers so far. Looking for some friendly advice of what to go for next. At the moment just looking for flexibility in my army but I must confess I was always a fan of close combat! I understand all the marks etc, so at the moment Im just going for Black Legion until my xmas bonus arrives!

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated as after 14 years Im kinda a little out of Sync!!

I will be playing against Eldar and Space Marines if this helps

get a rhino to house the crazy (but awesome) zerkers.

if u want a cc army then khonre is the way to go!! they should make short work of most eldar and have a little up on those space marines. there are some good lists on here to get u started on reasonable list.

Zerkers and a DP good start! For your second troop choice I would suggest plague marines, they are nails plus you can run double special weapon in a squad 7!
Rhinos are the way forward for your zerkers and to be fair most foot slogging choices, extra protection and extra mobility!
A good starter list (in my opinion) would be

Daemon Prince - 155
Wings, Warptime

8 Zerkers - 258
SC with PF, rhino with EA

7 Plaguemarines - 256
PC with PF, 2xMG and a rhino

1 Obliterator - 75

= 744
But like right hand of khorne said, there are some good list builds on here for beginners/returning players out of the loop!
2 too look for are Svarts black legion compendium and ROT's Khorne compendium
Welcome back to 40k and the glory of chaos!!

This is a very solid list, 5 times out of 10 your DP will get shot before he gets into CC, wings are a near must have.

If i were you this list would be my starting point, it might have a tad of minor issues but none that i can see (gameplay will reveal).

Cheers

Ya this is solid. If they focus your DP then your rhinos full of Zerkers and Plague Marines should eat everything. If they ignore the DP then well... thats self explanatory. My suggestion is Roll the DP behind the Rhinos.

Everything is Moving 12" so you can Rhino wall into CC.

By this I mean:

On Turn 1: Rhino 1 Moves 12" and turns sideways and pops smoke, then move up Rhino 2 and the DP make sure to manoeuvre to that majority of Rhino 2 and DP get their 4+ cover and obscure save.
Turn 2: Rhino 2 Moves up and pops smoke while Rhino 1 and the DP take cover.
Turn 3 You are in their lines with hopefully everything is still intact.

Cheers,

Heres my advice, i won't post a list since others seem to have that covered.

-Zerkers rule. good choice. You will probably want at least 1 ranged unit though, so either regular CSM or Plague Marines are the way to go. Plagues are better for competative play, but normal CSM might be more practical if you are going to stay under 1000 points due to point cost. Plus everyone and their brother (including me) uses the Zerk/Plague/DP combo, so originality is at a minimum there.

-For every unit of infantry you buy, get a Rhino. Footslogging CSM armies are a recipe for disaster.

-For heavy support, Obliterators and Vindicators are the kings. If you take plague marines you will be limited to the 1 Oblit until a higher point level, so if you REALLY want that Vindi or 2nd Oblit you would be obligated to use normal CSMs.

-Unless you really, really want one, avoid buying Chaos Lords/Sorcerors. They simply do not perform as well as a DP, and if you want a Lord you may as well just get Kharn the Betrayer. He's better in CC with cooler rules. Sorcs have their place, but that place is as a Lash caster in a larger list.

For specific list ideas, check out Svart's Black Legion compendium and/or ROT's Khorne Compendium. Both excellent articles.

Right games of 1000pts or under are incredably difficult for Chaos Space Marines

What I recommend is you get your three force organization chart units sorted first.

So in order to do this effeciently at a low points game what I recommend is that you use one cult squad in this case berzerkers and then use your HQ as the champion of that unit, therefore saving you some points as your HQ which is mandatory fulfils the role of the cult units champion.

For Khorne I would really have to point you towards Kharn, just check out my special characters tactica in my sig to see why. So try this following list

(747pts) (3 Vehicles) (18 Models)

HQ

Kharn 165pts
This guy is a beast in combat, always wounds on a 2+ and has a plasma pistol just in case a unit is hiding in a Rhino, and 2 d6 penetration against vehicles, so no sneaky dreadnoughts or even Land Raiders at this points level will bother you.

TROOPS

7 Khorne Berzerkers, Rhino, 182pts
Go with Kharn and are an excellent retinue for him and a fluffy number when Kharn is added!
10 CSM, Champion, Powerfist, IOK, x2 Meltaguns, Rhino 275
Great allrounders, you can replace the IOK but because x2 meltaguns means your close to the frontlines it makes this unit great against hordes due to +1 attack and it gets an extra PF attack for your champ

HEAVY SUPPORT

Chaos Vindicator 125pts
This unit is great against hordes and with strength 10 threatens all vehicles, plus it makes your opponent decide, Kharn or Vindi? He'll maybe kill or immobilze one, but the other will get through

In games under 1000 points i wouldn't use kharn. One or two casualties from him might cost the game. A DP could pown Kharn any day and can have quite a powerful arsenal of weapons and abilities for 165 points. I still reckon 'jondoe's list is better. Marginaly.

Gotta agree on the DP being better at low points. They are incredibly hard to kill at lower point levels, and don't have the potential to slaughter your own troops.

Kharn is an awesome manbeast, but if he rolls two 1s to hit you just lost over 10% of your infantry, and not even because of the enemy!

Again, if you REALLLY don't want a DP, and REALLLY want a Lord-equivalent that meshes with Berserkers, i would recommend him because he is hilariously killy.
