Now this is an interesting quote from someone who is usually in the know:

And what if the most of the Rending rules stay exactly as they are with the only change to Rending being the size of the extra AP die roll?

So with this in mind, versus non-vehicle units Rending weapons will work exactly as they currently do. Therefore said genestealers will function virtually the same as they do now when fighting troops.

However those very same genestealers will no longer even have a chance to punch through a Land Raider like they currently can (though anything with a Rear Armor Value of 10 should be very concerned, trust me)

From what I heard, it may be even better than picking.

Overheard "rumours" from those who would know.

I get the feeling that Krak grenades will get useful.
I was thinking the same thing,
though I have not heard if grenades will change much from their current incarnation (however based on the new Ork codex, it looks to me as though they should remain the same).

It also sounds like the additional die will be a D3.
To repeat, that particular bit of detail was infered and did not come from me.

Then it looks like our sources may have differing information.

It is much too early for the "leaking" of anything more specific without compromising sources. About all that I can get away with is pretty much just limited to commenting on stuff that has already been leaked/rumoured from/by others.

So Rending was brought up, with many going on about how it is "rumoured" to be changing. I merely provided some hints as to how I was told that it would be changing in the next edition. (while I heard about the AP change, others have heard about a change as to when "Rending" occurs - as of today, both now sound likely to be seen in the not too distant future)

I also vaguely hinted at some "rumoured" changes to close combat (and vehicles). This was all more or less in hopes of curtailing (or at least reducing) further moaning about how genestealers won't be able to kill any space marines in the next edition (though their efficiency may be slightly reduced - however this will depend on the rest of the possible changes to close combat and how this all meshes in the new rules).

It almost works the same way though but cuts down on the number of possible rending hits it can get. It also tones down rending vs vehicles a bit and brings it a bit more in line with common sense I think. I have never understood how a genestealer that otherwise can't even scratch a Land Raider can suddenly destroy it easily thanks to this one claw. Didn't make sense. Of course, I think that the changes to the rule are due mainly to the Assault Cannon spamming armies out there as opposed to Tryanid creatures with it. Rending as it stands now on a gun is a tad much.

This is a translation by one of the Warseer gents of rumours posted on an Italian forum. Dig it:

I'll translate in the same order in which Smokedog reported the posts, as close to the original sense as possible:

1)
-Close combat made in a way all participants can attack.
-Damages to vehicles similar to Apocalypse.
-Perhaps structure points to some vehicles.
-Rules for psychic powers well done (not just a little paragraph).
-Forced march for troops.
-That's not traducible. Something along the way of: something here and there.

2)
Cit. Yes, but if in Close Combat they attack simultaneosly, then...
I think that instead of a simultaneous attack, it will change the way casualties are removed from close combat
(e.g. 10 marines against a Tyrant and a Carnifex = as it is now, the Marine player would eliminate the models killed (by the Tyrant) from the ones in contact with the Carnifex, to prevent it from attacking)

3)
Cit. Sorry for my ignorance, but how are the damages as in Apocalypse? i.e. How are they treated in Apocalypse?
Again, sorry for my ignorance in this matter...

Just one chart with: destroyed on 5-6
+
Glancing hits have a -2 on that chart
=
To be able to destroy a vehicle only via Glancing, you must first destroy all of its weapons and immobilize it.

4)
There is only one damage chart [in Apocalypse], with a -2 modifier for glancing hits and a +1 for penetrating.

+1 is for Destructor damages,
Penetrating hits roll on the chart without modifiers.

5)
Cit. There will be less Land Speeder and perhaps Close Combat...
Bye Bye

Uhm... If forced March can be made even with Monstrous Creatures...
Non traducible expression about him having good expectations...
And finally, even Trinity and Children [that's a reference to a movie, which here means:] (Close Combat Tyrant and 2 carnifexes) will have a significative role.

From the other post of Smokedog:
Oh, right!
Rending will become an intermediate between Gauss and the Sisters of Battle miracle [blessing? I don't know the english original definition]:
i.e.
on a 6 when wounding=> AP 1
on a 6 when rolling to penetrate=>auto-glance

And all necrons will have it by default on their next Codex.
Bit more:

Oh, and much of what has come from the Italian site sounds very close to what I heard as well (which would appear to bode well for the rest of what I have heard).
Though I think that skimmers amy still be taken down if immobilized, as in the current rules - the rest I believe pertains mainly to ground vehicles and that they can only be destroyed from Glancing hits if all the weapons have been destroyed and the vehicle has been immobilized (similar to current rules).

I can totally dig the vehicle destruction rules. I still don't like the auto-glance on a roll of a six to penetrate, however, the AP1 seems fair to me. I just don't like the idea of a Genestealer walking up to the front of my Russ and shredding it.

if they do the apocalypse style vehicle dmg chart vehicles will have much less to worry about from glancing, so a stealer shredding a russ will probably be less devastating then how the rules are currently

As long as the new guard plastics are the same quality as the cadians we'll be laughing, however if they look like the catachans.... hmm.
When combined with the forgeworld support of the guard the range could be awesome to behold.

Thoroughly looking forward to it, though i'll still be lovingly painting my cadians...

Toil toil...
