So I've been reading Conquest, and found the rules for the Questoris Knight army, which is a 30k Knight Detachment. I have to say, it looks really cool. It builds off of the Imperial Knights 'codex', offering more than just the Seneshal and Aspirant ranks. You can now select different upgrades for each Knight. For instance, there are two upgrades that boost the stats of the Knights, and make them your HQ choices. There's a Heavy upgrade that gives them Skyfire if they don't move (making them a Heavy Support). Troops are, for the most part, just straight-out-of-the codex rules, but you can even take apprentice knights for lower cost and worse stats (much like the codex rank rolls on a 1). There's even a couple of upgrades for the Knights... targeting optics or a different battle cannon for the Paladin.

So... do you think this would be usable in 40k? I like having more options available to run the codex... if anything it might make it a little bit weaker, because the automatic Sensechal no longer exists, and you technically don't need to risk the roll for anyone else. The only change you would need to make is removing the Questoris Knight Styrix, because Volkerite weaponry does not exist in 40k (and it's the only knight to specifically say it can't be in a 40k army).

Thoughts?

In RAW terms? No. The book is designed for 30k and Age of Darkness battles. And has (theoretically at least) been playtested by the studio team against such armies. This includes access to age of darkness force organization and armies - legiones astartes crusade army list, solar auxilia, ordo reductor and the two other admech lists, and other questoris lists and includes access to things like Lords of War without Escalation/Apoc, 4 elites, 3 HQ, no Malefic powers, changes to the allies rules etc

FW have said it is 'allowed' but is not playtested or balanced against 40k.

That said i have had few refuse to play 30k v 40k, mixing and matching the rules dependant on ehat is needed, and being above suspicion by taking the books and relevant pdfs and answering questions by proving their source. Relying on tricky rules and being the poor writing of the rules in general in book iv, make sure have quoted the relevant sections or at least noges referring to how they interact.

In FW parlance, unless it is 40k approved and states it may be used as 'x' choice in an imperial knights army, or whatever, then it may not be used in 40k. As you are essentially houseruling, ask your opponent before the game, and have a spare 40k ready list as well should they say no to 30k (the 40k sjw's can whinge away, but it happens), and clearly state what is what for 30k models with 40k rules.

Vaz, I totally agree with you, except for one thing:

As far as I can tell, once you remove the Styrix as a unit that's not 40k approved... the Knight list seems probably like the one that's least overpowered in 40k. All it is is a few options for the rank upgrades for a full Imp Knight list. I'd probably drop the magus as an HQ, also... but I was really just curious about the Knight rank upgrades, mostly.

It isn't about the balance, and the Styrix sn't exactly OP. I'm all for playing as many games as possible, and would not personally have a problem with playing vs it, a) as long as I was aware that I'd be playing a Knight list, and b) that I would be playing with new rules.

Just bringing a knight list to pick up and play games I'm not a fan of as it means if you win, it is possibly down to gimmicks or the sheer psychology of it. Having someone aware of it before givs preparation time for army list etc.

Just be aware that people are more likely to say no than normal sinply because it is more new and harder to find rules for, especially in the current status of HH4 only being LE for the tine being.
