I don't think GW really wants to associate it'self with a fan made thing, if the fans gave it away freely i doubt they would have a problem but i think they want to make money off it and if GW put their mark on it, it may have reprecussions when they make an actual professional film, hehe doing HND in media atm and my current assignment is copyright lol.

shite like Lord of the Rings

I am at a loss for words at that Jez.......

I would love for GW to fund/back a full on movie for 40K as well. But I agree with Jez that it would need to be rated R to be good.

Big budget usually means shite like Lord of the Rings or the new Star Wars.

I'm not a fan of the LotR films either. Neither is my regular 40k opponent who like me is massively into his Fantasy and Sci-fi. The second film was the best I guess but nothing amazing. All had superb special effects and the battles scenes were all nice but the whole thing was kinda *yawn*.

As for the first 3 Star Wars films I didn't mind Episode I as much as many folk, except for everything Jar-Jar. The second film was pretty bad, but the third film was superb.

TBH though if we're talking big budget adaptations I want to see Dragonlance miles more than 40k. Last I heard it was happening, but these things are slow to happen and can easily be abandoned.

Lord of the Rings is one of the greatest movies ever and star wars 3,4,5,6 are good also=]
But I think GW are right it might also mean they're thinking of making a movie themselves which would be a good thing, its certainly overdue one.

I was looking forward to seeing Damnatus.. I knew about it 4 years ago after the Blood Quest animated movie was scrapped which is screwed up because they realeased a preview/trailer for the movie but GW pulled funding for it :-(

Yeah they need a full length movie for 40K.. I really believe the best way for them to do it would be to get the animators who did the intro scenes for Dawn of War to do a full length film in the same way.

Lol the sorry line is amazing, graphics are the best ive seen in any movie ever granted spiderman 3 had biggest budget but they spent it all making a CGI NY which didn't look to good anyway, its one of the few movies that does its book any justice, and it does it in style=]

The worst climax to a trilogy since Debbie Does Dallas 3.

"I know, lets have a big group of ghosties win the day in 20 seconds...."

"How many orcs you killed now Gimli you big hunk?"
"31 Legolas, can I tickle your ears if I kill more?"....

Childish, boring, targetted at 12 years olds.

imo...

The effects were awesome. The plot (yes I hated the Lord of the Rings novels) is dated.

i have seen the trailer to damnatus and it looks really good for a fan film. they even had the sound track for download. it sucks that GW is pulling this crap, the 40k universe needs a movie even if it is fan made. i mean come on if lucas films can promote fan made flics why can't GW. they get enough of are money you'ld think they would go for a way to get even more. i say they should let the film be released.

I have to disagree with Jez - Lord Of The Rings = terrible - but I blame the source material - the films themselves arn't bad from a technical point of veiw - acting could be slightly better but it isn't the worst I've seen.

The actual story however is awful - 1 dimension characters with the ecexption of 1 and one of the most cop out endings I've ever seen.

I loved Lord of the Rings triology for several reasons, i did disagree with some decisions such as the way they handled the Ghosts and helms deep. All in all it benefited the film industry since we now have more films based on fantasy, even if most are tragicly rubbish. Altogether considering the film was made in New Zealand by a director that had never undertook such a massive film before, i think it was great.
