I was wondering if anyone knows of any site that keeps track how often all the armies of 40k acctualy win. I remember something like this on GW's site when they ran the Storm of Magic or what it was called. But is there anything like it for 40k somewhere?

Would you all be intrested in providing me with numbers if I where to start a statistics-thread here? You all could post your gameresults, Combatants+who won, and I could put together the statistics over time, each month or so. Anyone in on this?

Could be interesting to see, and I would gladly contribute - However, the one thing I see a problem with is the nature of the game; Casual and tournament.

If this is to be done, I think it should be put into 2 categories and there needs to be some guidelines as to which lists counts for which. Otherwise, you get skewed results.

It would be really interesting to see it. But as mentioned we would need casual and tournament. Using tournament results would be good thing to add in. The only other problem I see is people lying about games that they won to increase their favorite armies rating.

Well I like to think this is a much more mature 'society' here at heresy, and also there's no way we can atcually get around that problem...
Amd I don't think that casual games should reflect on and results, no ones trying to win. Just have a laugh so they may well take sub par lists and might not play for full competitiveness, I know when I play for fun I'll do thing s I won't normally... Like charge my termie Libby solo at a gaurd squad... His termie squad is fine and right there... But it's a laugh

Personally I think the opposite should be true, we should ignore the tournament scene and focus on the fun games.

Honestly I think GW has been working real hard to kill any ability to do something like this. The impression I have gotten is that they are doing their best to kill competitive play and make it all about having fun and 'forging the narrative'. Or in better words, sell as many models from all ranges as possible. They do not want any set 'best army' or 'list of units' because this will cut into the sales of other lines.

Given that their poster boys are one of the hardest armies to play competitively is that really a surprise?

Space marines are one of the best to play competitively from what I am seeing in the tournament results. Looking at the top ten of all the recent ones it is always eldar, vanilla space marines of some kind, necrons. These three usually take up most of the top 10 spots.
I think space marines might be a little harder to play since most games are objective based instead of kill point and you have to actually use tactics and strategy now which makes a more balanced game in my opinion.

Have you tried playing orks competitively now there is a challenging army to play in a tournament.

Bully Boyz and Shoota Boyz in the Blitz Brigade with a bunch of Mek Gunz seems to have done pretty well so far, at least in my experience.

You're totally right though, Space Marines have placed solidly at a couple of big tournaments recently. Grav Centurions, White Scars and Pod lists are all good at 7th through being mobile, scoring and shooty.

As for the original topic, yes - Torrent of Fire is pretty close to what you're looking for, if you're willing to pay.

You mean Space Marines, the army that got 1st (with a White Scars list) at the BAO competition, and 2nd (with a drop pod list), and had 3 more drop pod lists in the top 10 placers?

(hat tip to @MidnightSun for the source)

I never said they weren't a good army I said they were hard to play competitively, players can very easily cripple themselves by taking lists that focus on the jack of all trades aspect.
