3k point Wood Elves List

So I haven't played a game of Fantasy yet, but I am interested in starting. The largest priorities I have is that the models must look cool, and the army needs to feel right to me (I'm referring to fluff). I don't even know the rules to the game yet, but I am a bit familiar having seen the game played and being versed in 40k. I would like your opinions on what is good and what is weak, but also why it is good/week. Also what tactics should I use, I plan on avoiding CC like the plague and Monster Hunting with my Glade Lord.

I would focus on giving your dragonlord a good ward first, probably the Armor of Destiny. That's half your allotment gone. I'd add the Helm of the Hunt and the Sword of Striking. That's 85 points, you can fanagle that if you want, but he'll be hitting most enemies on 2+ and against many will be hit on a 5+, he'll have a ton of attacks and will be decently survivable. Still damned expensive, but you knew that going in.

Why do you want the acorn in your list? It's not all that good unless you build your list around it.

Wow that's a lot of wizard levels. I suggest a level four (I love shadow, personally) and a level two, definitely not two of those. If you want a lot of levels, pick lores with low (<10) casting costs - especially with the sisters in there.

The waystalker is fun, but not that great. If you do take one, though, the BoL is definitely worth it (most people on Asrai agree that you get 2 sniper no armor shots, so I go with that).

Eternal guard are a good anvil, especially in a forest. However, you need a hammer. To that end, I would trade a spellsinger and some sisters for Wild Riders (these guys really are fantastic). Keep a unit of sisters if you want for a bunker, but I'm not sure you need them and a lv4 and a lv2. Fill up the rest of your points on waywatchers, they really are very good.

Anyways, welcome to the woods mate

can't take Armour of Destiny and Helm of the Hunt, both are Magic Armour.
I was under the impression he could as one is in the BRB and the other in the Wood Elf book. I could totally be wrong of course.

Only a single Level 4 caster is needed. A Level 4 in a wood with a Sisters of the Thorn 4 ranks deep and a Book of Ashur is looking at +6 and +5 to cast respectively with 6 spells known, and it will not be going anywhere, thanks to a 4++.
I agree for the most part, but if you really want a second lore then go for a smaller-level caster. It seems to me well worth it for ~5 of your 15+ sisters. Personally, I run 2 characters in a unit of 8 and I've never lost more than 3 sisters over the course of the game.

A warning regarding avoidance lists. They absolutely suck to play against. If you don't run away with this stuff and just charge it into enemies (which isn't the best idea, but that's kind of the point) then that changes, but if you play it effectively it's just a bitch to fight, especially for newer players or those with CC-centric armies. It's also more difficult a style to learn. If you're going for tournies, of course, avoid away. I try to run some combat blocks (sometimes WWR, sometimes Dryads, sometimes treekin) and a treeman or two even in my most avoidy lists just to keep my opponent sane.

*EDIT* If you are sold on avoidance, this might help. Asrai is pretty great.

Waywatchers are good, but depending on your meta you may want to go with scouts for some of those points. They are fantastic against armor, but they can't take Hagbane which limits their usefulness against high strength characters. Oh, right, always take hagbane or trueflight on your riders. Anyways, if you face hardly any armor (like me), you might want to replace them with something else.
