Battle Report!

Eldar verus Space Marines 3000pts

Eldar List:
HQ & WL: Illic NightSpear
HQ: WraithSeer - D-Canon
Hvy: WraithLords {x3} - StarCanon & Scatter Laser
HQ: SpiritSeers {x2}
Trp: WraithGuard {x2-x5} - WaveSerpent -Shuriken Canon & Scatter Laser
HQ: FarSeers {x2} - One has the Uld Long Rifle.
Trp: WraithGuard {x2-x5} - WaveSerpent -Shuriken Canon & Scatter Laser
Hvy: WraithKnight
FA: WarpSpiders {x2-x7} - Exarchs - FastShot & Marksman Eye.

Space Marine List: {going on memory here :( }
Sniper unit x 2
bloody BIG tanks, AV14, with terminator squads in them. 5men squads.
Two Jump pack squads, think 10 men.
Two Skimmers.
Drop Pods with Temrinators/2 tack squads/2 Dreadnoughts.

We went 5 turns and then decided to end it.
Space Marine win by 2 points. Good game.
Wasnt much left of the Eldar by then those AV14 tanks
took everything I could shoot at them but I didnt even scratch them.
And the Terminators inside them when they came out Saved
all shots I got thru to them. :(

I sent the WK and the 2 WS up the middle and ended up
taking on those tanks. Very bad for me as my guns pretty much did nothing
against them.
The Knight did scare the bejeeus out of the Marine general though. :)

My WG in the WVSs took care of the Drop Pod squads pretty good.
With the wave serpent Shield gun pretty much being the king on the field.

Thru the WLs against the tanks and then gave up on that option.
Used them instead to take out his 2 Sniper squads.

All in all I felt most of the Lsit did pretty well.
The Warlord was useless. He hit easily but no wounds.
Kept rolling Ones!

I had one WG unit that pretty much was usless all game.
Got stuck in wrong area. no targets close enough.

And I feel like I didnt get the warp Spiders movemnet correct.
They just didnt seem fast.

Any suggestions on weapon changes to deal with those two AV14 tanks?

Were you trying to shoot the tanks at the front?
side & rear armour are your friends......
IMO I would drop the starcannons for brightlances, remembering to shoot the scatterlasers first for the twin linking
the best way to deal with termies is to swamp them with lots of shots....
BTW what was the loadout on the wraithknight?

If the tanks were Land Raiders they would have been AV 14 all around, barwn. Stil, bright lances are your frieeend against heavy armor. An anti-tank equipped Crimson Hunter Exarch, f'rinstance. If you'd managed to charge the tank with the Wraithknight, he probably also could have cracked one open--and if he was blocking the front exit (likely), the Termis would have had to make an emergency disembarkation, which would have slowed them down wonderfully. Against Termis, weapons with Monofilament do the trick in large enough numbers, generally: the Warp Spiders rending them could have been fun.

Yeah, it seems to be the current conventional wisdom to take lots of scatter lasers, and similarly I get the feeling many Eldar players are now also leaning towards wraithguard and wraithlords. I suppose if you know ahead of time what your opponent will be then maybe it would make sense to take weapons and units that match up favorably against the type of enemy army you will be facing. However...... at such a large pt level (3000 pts) its generally best to go with heavier weaponry, and as much of it as you can get! Similarly, its better at that point level to have as resilient an army as possible, along with the greater heavy firepower, since 3000 pts on a standard 6' by 4' table tends to shape the battle into one more like attrition than blitzkrieg.

So, I think you might want to learn to like fire prisms and bright lance-equipped units more!

Dont forget about Fire Dragons. They all have melta guns. Put them in a Wave Serpent for a 6" move in the tank, then a 6" disembarkation move, then a re-rollable d6 run move before finally shooting their melta guns. 5 Fire Dragons have a scary, impressive threat range and wilm easily crush a land raider.

The WraithKnight was stock.
I am thinking maybe of a Scatter laser & a suncanon. But tis getting expensive then.
I am trying to keep it mostly Wraith like, the army.

Aye I should have tried charging the bloody things with the WK. and have the 2 squads of WSpiders back him up.
I will post up my full revised army listing here soon.

Eldar - Wraith {Heavy Metal}
3000pts

Notes!
a} Not sure of the D-Canon on the WraithSeer.
Might want to change to BrightLance, what do ye think?
b} If I do take off the D-Canon I could then add the GhostGlaives to the other two WLs.
c} Thinking of adding a Suncanon and a Scatter Laser to WK, but not sure where to find pts for it.
Still think it might be too expensive for it.

Just a few points:
- Recheck if your Autarch can even take two two-handed weapons. I'd say no but ddon't have the codex onhand. Be that as it may, it makes no sense since there's practically nothing you'd rather shoot at with deathspinner.

- I'm not sure what trying to aaccomplish with the Firesabre. If the Autarch joins the Spiders he's carrying a 35 point sword with a squad that doesn't want CC. If he's alone, he risks getting lost in time and space (ie. the Warp)

- Pumping all those points into Spider Exarch is madness (definitely not Sparta). If you do the math it's better just to add more dudes to the squad.

- Scatter laser / brightlance combo is IMO suboptimal. You're better off with two brightlances so you're not wasting S6 shots on terminators and Land Raiders (those bloody big tanks which are costly and easy to kill if you have pointed ears). Pick a gun you like and take two of those :) Double Shuriken cannos do a number on infantry, it is rather awe inspiring to watch ^^

- Seers (dead and alive), guard and Serpents all look good and should perform in a Khaine-pleasing way if you manage to keep 'em off CC

Good luck and better luck next time against the power armoured mutants!
