Fairly fluffy and very powerful. I win with this. A lot. I post this to emphasize the importance of understanding that you can use sub-optimal units together to make a powerful list. A solid list is a sum of it's parts and thier relationship to one another. Redundancy in every critical task and solid offensive and defensive elements. This is a solid all comers build, yet it uses a number of "mediocre" selections. The synnergy is undeniable - this is the evolution of my deathguard since the CSM codex hit.

Daemon Prince - MoN, wings, warp time
Sorcerer - bike, MoN, icon, rot
Greater Daemon

7 plague marines - icon, 2 x flamer, champ w/pf, rhino
7 plague marines - icon, 2 x melta, champ w/ pf, rhino
7 plague marines - icon, 2 x melta, champ w/ melta bombs, rhino
14 lesser daemons

7 bikers - MoN, 2 x melta, champ

2 x oblits (converted ogryn - wip :) )
2 x oblits

Plays as straight forward as it looks.

rhinos and bikes are not fluffy in a death guard list.
And I would hardly call those sub optimal units:p

You would hardly call bikes, lesser daemons, greater daemons, and a sorcerer sub optimal? Really? It seems that the concensus is that they are statistically inferior units... ...deathguard can and do use rhinos, just not to the extent of other mechanized forces.

why is that? granted, the Death Guard has been about the infantry man, but even as a Legion, i couldn't see why the would limit themselves in mobility. i mean, wouldn't they have a transport to get them to battle and have a recon element (bikes)?

i do agree with that last part...

i wouldn't consider all these units subtimal: i only feel that way with the CSM Daemons. Sorcs are not sub optimal at all: it's just that in the metagame (which could be defined as crap, IMO) of 40K, Daemon Princes are seen as better choices.

in a lot of ways they are. BUT, they still cannot join squads to soak up fire and have a harder time finding cover than other units. i'd consider a Chaos Lord more suboptimal than a Sorc., TBH.

and bikes are not sub optimal in the sense that they suck. they're more expensive. in the metagame, for the points you spent on bikes, you could more than likely get a LR (for example). the LR is seen as better, but it could be a points sink/bullet magnet if the LR is immobilized somewhere incovenient to you.

the bikes are better in the sense that they're durable, have a high toughness and gain 3+ cover, and they're relentless. the difference here is which unit is better, it's more of a preference, IMO.

but you have what i'd consider a solid, themed, hard hitting Death Guard list with a few surprises. it's a good list inigo, and i'd play with this if that's worth anything to you.
