Hammerers are next to useless. Either take more longbeards, or more warriors with those points. Will you be giving your war machines runes? there isnt much to be said on the basic selection, but that stuff is hard to meess up. But the demons are in the details.

They are useless because with the larger unit sizes in 8th edition their stubborn means nothing. When everyone who has 1 rank more will also have stubborn. So its useless. Long beards with great weapons are a MUCH better choice. Or Ironbreakers.

i am sidig with smidge222 here hammers are not useless as dwarves are quite exspensive in general and your not likely to have mor ranks than you opponent meaning if you lose combat with hammers they are still stubborn

Hammerers are better than Longbeards.

The only reason to field Longbeards over Hammerers would be to use up the core percentage requirements.

I also wouldn't bother with the anvil of doom - you haven't got any miners, etc, to really take advantage of it. Although it will be good magic defence, you're probably going to be better off taking something else... maybe a combat Lord to go in with the Hammerers to make them immune to Fear and Terror?

thanx i totally agree with the hammerers after playing a game with them they are a realy hard unit to get rid of and with the new rules i can actually get the charge on people with dwarves i thought about a lord on shieldbearers to go with the hammerers but the anvil helps me slow down units i dont want to fight early on but i am still undecided on the anvil or lord and shield bearers

I think the only game (in about 12) where my shieldbearer lord has actually died was when I foolishly challenged the Ogre overtyrant, and even then it took him a good few turns to smush him.

His LD10 is also a nice bonus, combined with a BSB re-roll and it'll be tricky to fail any Ld test.

I field him almost exactly the same as Bishop, except I dont use the rune of resistance. I go for 2x runes of fury and master rune of kragg the grim, for a 1+/4++ and 6 str 6 attacks
