Biggest things I see:
1 -- Get some ward saves for the vamps. There's lots of spells and weapons that ignore armor. I wouldn't rely on The Hunger special rule to keep them alive either.
2 -- Get a necromancer scroll caddy. A scroll can be a life saver vs those nuke spells.
3 -- Pare those giant core units down. Unless you're playing on a table w/ 3 pieces of terrain, those HUGE units can be a real pain to move. A necro w/ master of the dead (another reason for the caddy :eek:k: ) can boost skeletons beyond starting size. Zombies can always go beyond starting size AND get 2D6+lvl added when doing Invocation.
4 -- Get some chaff units like dire wolves, solo spirit host, or fell bats. You can get some of those by paring down those core blocks. You need to be able to get to your opponents' chaff units to keep them from bogging down your main units and having your own throw away units will help with that.

Special and Rare look good.

Thanks for the response. I split the skeletons into two groups of 40, and put the zombies down to 45 to make room for two sets of 5 dire wolves. Other than that, how would you suggest making room for the necromancer?

Dropping the Zombies to 45 isn't going to get you the space for 2 units of wolves. You may want to think about dropping the zombies to 45 and just a single unit of skelies. Then fill those points in w/ the necro caddy and more chaff. Skeletons aren't going to be scoring you any VPs by killing stuff. They're there for their ability to hold stuff up and deliver a combat character or bunker a magic user.

Paring down the zombies to 45 and dropping to a single unit of 40 skeletons you'll have 254pts to play w/. A lvl 1 necro w/ scroll and MotD + 2 x 5 wolves is 190 so you'll still have 64pts left which you could use to get some ward saves for your vamps or tack on 4 fell bats.

I am a bit confused on how that works out. 2x5 wolves+ 40 skellies(w/standard)+40 skellies w/standard)+45 zombies= 635 points. If I drop one set of skellies to make room for the necro & scroll I am left with not enough core points to be legal since it will be below 625. If I take a level 4 vamp lord with heavy armor, shield, armor of fortune, lance, barded nightmare, with quick blood and red fury that is 483 points. The level 1 vamp hero with heavy armor, barded nightmare, shield, gambler's armor, lance, and red fury is 205. This gives ward saves to the champs like you said, but it puts me at 2531 total. I believe my math is correct but let me know if I am wrong. How did you account for the necro caddy but still have enough core and keep special and rare the same?

Thanks for bearing with me, I am still fairly new to this game.

DOH! I'm a moron! :fool: Many apologies for not taking into consideration the mandatory core allotment. I keep forgetting how cheap the core units for VC are. Been playing to much WoC lately. :p

You could always drop one of the varghulfs if you really wanted the scroll caddy. A lvl 1 necro w/ scroll and MotD comes out to 110 so you'd have some more points to play around w/ as well. Otherwise you could just hope to rely on the +4 from the vamp lord for dispel attempts.

No worries. What if I did this to try and accommodate for everything?

Lord-
Master necro lvl4, motd, dispel scroll =245

Heroes-
Vampire, lvl1, barded nightmare, heavy armor, gamblers armor, lance, shield, red fury =205

Vampire, lvl1, barded nightmare, heavy armor, armor of fortune, lance, shield, red fury, quick blood = 250

If I drop the grave guard to 26 models and keep everything else the same it is exactly 2500. Would this be a good solution?
