So basic concept: Stormtalon escorts the Neph to give me paired anti-air and anti-tank as needed (and hopefully survives a round of Interceptor). Khan goes with the heavy hitting RW Command Squad to cause a big mess in close combat, and the WS Bike Squads do the same with their strong Jinks and better than normal HoW hits. Meanwhile, the Ravenwing Bikes zoom around, hiding in the 'shroud and blasting stuff with plasma and melta as needed.

New version of this list. Decided to give it a little bit more fist-in-face hitting power.

Stormtalon - 110
TL Lascannon

Total: 1995

Basic tactics remain the same as earlier, just a bit more interesting. First turn scout for the RW squads, with Khan tucked into the Black Knights. His unit can make an utter mess out of whatever he hits, between his sword and the rending hammers, and that's after burning through stuff with Plasma Talons, and softening with the grenade launcher.

Other RW squads are forward moving, between Scout and Turbo Boost, and at least one of those squads will be far enough forward on the first turn to make sure that the two squads of Terminators can drop where ever I need them, threatening first turn with missiles and bolter fire.

The two squads of White Scars bikes act as a second wave; their Grav Guns should help soften up more targets as needed, and then between power swords and their improved Hammer of Wrath, can help mop things up in close combat as well.

The Stormtalon is my only anti-air, which makes me a little bit sad, and I have the 5 points I need to switch its Lascannons to Typhoons for a little bit more versatility. I'm basically hoping that the army's speed and maneuverability means that I can avoid fliers more effectively.

What do people think? I feel like I need more plasma... :scratchhead:

Isn't an upgrade to TL lascannon on a stormtalon slightly more expensive than that?

Hmm. Absolutely right. A bunch more, actually. Not sure how I missed that.

I'll end up removing a single Black Knight. That covers the cost of the Lascannon, and actually enough extra points for a few more Chainfists in the Terminators.

If it was me, I'd just drop one squad of those ravenwing assault bikers, and use the freed up points to upgrade the flyer to TL lascannons and get another one in there.

More air defence, and it's not like you are short on troops in any way. Dropping one knight might reduce the unit's efficiency too much... You'll have enough teleport homers on the board to cover the whole thing anyway and 6 scoring units in total. That should be enough to pull you through... (even though said units are a bit fragile due to lower numbers).

The downside to that is that you cant run two Stormtalons in this army, as the White Scars half is the Allied detachment. My original design involved a Nephilim and a Stormtalon, but honestly, the Neph is far too costly for what it does, being 40 points more.

If I dropped one troop squad, I'd have 4 total. 6 I guess if you're counting the attack bike separate? But the squad doesn't cover the cost of the Neph.

Oh right... doh...

And yeah, I mean 6 scoring elements on the table. Maybe a stalker could be an option? You could even flesh out the command squad a bit more for that cost? Or add a few members to the excisting squads?

After a removing a single Knight from the Command squad (making it 3 + Apothecary), that gives me enough points to handle the upgrade to the Talon to give it lascannons. It also means I have enough points, if I wanted, to remove a squad of Ravenwing to add the Nephilim, and let them come in together on the escort move. However, I really think I'd rather work with a single flier in support and then have more strength in my troops. It's a tough call, and I'd like some suggestions. I can't afford an ADL, because that would require someone to man it. I could try for a Hunter or Stalker, but I just didn't really want a tank in my 'Ravenwing' army, even with Terminators dropping down.

Another thought I had was to drop all these plasma guns in order to use the Standard of Devastation, but the more I trim RW bikes out, the less value it has.
