ok, so here is a list i put together with some points to spare. Going to a tourny so i need to optimize this list for effectiveness. I want to know if i chose the right options, what to put on, what to take off, etc etc. Any help with this list would be amazing. Thanks!

hq:
wolf lord: Mount, shield, frost sword - 190pts
i figured this was a pretty standard build, thoughts? He will be attached to the twc squad as a counter assault/character hunting unit.
rune priest: Hood, combi-metla - 80pts
goes with gh squad a
rune priest: Hood, combi-metla - 80pts
goes with gh squad b

troops:
grey hunter squad a: Packleader w/ combi-metla, pf & 8 marines w/ melta, standard & rhino - 241pts
grey hunter squad b: Packleader w/ combi-metla, pf & 8 marines w/ melta, standard & rhino - 241pts
grey hunter squad c: Packleader w/ combi-metla, pf & 9 marines w/ 2 meltas, standard & rhino - 265pts

elites:
scouts: 5 scouts w/ cloaks, 4 snipers, ml - 99pts

fast attack:
thunderwolf cav: 3 cav w/ twin claws, frost axe/storm shield - 185pts
swiftclaws: 7 bikes w/ pf, melta - 175pts
this unit was a toss up with speeder squads, what do you think? What would be more effective? Also would the lord be better off with these guys and just drop the twc squad all together and find a better use for the points?

heavy support:
long fangs: 5 marines w/ 4 mls & razorback w/ tl hb - 205pts
long fangs: 5 marines w/ 4 mls & razorback w/ tl lc - 225pts

sitting at 1986 right now. Again, any advice would be awesome. Tear the list apart if need be, i just want a list that will pull its weight in a tourny. Thanks!

This list was revised. See below. Thank you.

I am pretty sure it us one standard per army now. I also am thinking we can only take the standard 2 HQ now if this is supposed to be a standard Battleforged list.

Personally I would not run speeders or bikes in a SW list, I would bring more Cav. I also would not run Scouts at all, for 85 points you could have a deep striking Lone Wolf in TDA with TH/SS.

Scscofield is right about the standards, "One grey hunter per detachment may take a wolf standard" p60 of the space wolf codex (emphasis added).

However, 3 HQs is fine and dandy if using the wolves unleashed or COF detachment (can have up to 6 and 4 HQs respectively).

What book are you running from, space wolves or COF? Wolf lord is fine as is but some of the relics are hard to ignore and would really bulk him up.

Not really sure what the swiftclaws are for. If you're set on them, I'd be tempted to run them as 2 squads of three with a meltagun, combi-melta and meltabomb. Got yourself a nice little tank hunter unit that's fast and durable.

My bad guys, lots of technical errors and oversight... lets try this again. Mind you this list is suppose to mobile and versatile (minus the long fangs which just holds the back field unless you can think of something better) the list has also been overhauled. let me know what you think!

CoF Detachment

HQ:
Lord w/ stormshield, frost sword, mount, AoR relic - 225pts
you think AoR is the right relic? his job will be to go with the cav unit as counter assault or character hunting.
RP w/ hood - 70pts
Goes with GH squad A
RP w/ hood - 70pts
Goes with GH squad B
These two are mainly my armies psychic defense as best as i can put it and hopefully some div rolls.

Elites:
Dread w/ MM, HF, Drop pod - 140pts
Dread w/ MM, HF, Drop pod - 140pts
Dread w/ MM, HF, Drop pod - 140pts
Doubt i need to explain what they do, though are they kitted properly?

Troops:
GH Squad A w/ 5 marines, standard, melta + razorback w/ TLLC - 180pts
GH Squad A w/ 5 marines, melta + razorback w/ TLLC - 155pts
Honestly they will just be used however i can during the game. really they just give me razorbacks and RP meat shields w/ a metla.

Fast Attack:
3 TWC w/ meltabombs / storm shield, frost sword / twin claws - 195pts
think i kitted them right to pair up with the lord for character hunting/ counter assault?
Swiftclaws Squad A w/ 3 bikers, melta, PF + pack leader w/ combi-melta - 140pts
Swiftclaws Squad B w/ 3 bikers, melta, PF + pack leader w/ combi-melta - 140pts
Honestly they are just tank hunters. plus being bikes they should draw some fire away from everything else, plus they just kind of fit the theme of the list i guess. im open to suggestions for the points though.

Heavies:
Longfangs Squad A w/ 5 marines, 3 MLs + razorback w/ TLLC - 195pts
Longfangs Squad B w/ 5 marines, 3 MLs + razorback w/ TLLC - 195pts
I know this is a more mobile list, but in my experience you need something to cover the rear, or so i think, if you can think of something better, id like to know. They only have 3 MLs one for the points but also for that extra wound cushion and they bring more tanks to the field. As i write this i'm wondering if a DSing squad of termies would be more dangerous....thoughts?

2000pts exactly. id like to hear what you have to say. Thanks!!

Revised Again! Check below for new list.

List is starting to look really good!

However, due to you using the CoF detachment, you cannot mix and match relics, you have to use the relics from the CoF book, "Any Character that is part of a detachment or formation presented in this book that can select relics of the fang cannot select from those listed in Codex: space wolves, but can instead select from relics of the great wolf, presented opposite, at the points costs shown" p48 of CoF supplement

I would be tempted to use the following instead of your current lord:
Wolf Guard battle leader
-Runic Armour
-Thunderwolf Mount
-Storm shield
-Krakenbone sword

Comes to 175pts (saving you 50pts)

You lose -1 WS, W, and Ld, but gain more in assault ability.

Preferred enemy (characters) thanks to the 'First among equals' special rule that does not apply to wolf lords and a master crafted frost sword which is AP2 that hits at I5. Loss of the belt of russ means nothing as you'd use the stormshield invul save anyway.

Honestly, I don't think you really need the hoods. While in their transports, the hoods only affect the transport vehicle. More often than not your vehicles are going to pop in the shooting phase, not the psychic, so I'd save yourself 20pts here.

I'm not really a fan of the new 'only 1' wolf standard rule. I know it makes sense, but still a bit of a kick in the teeth. I really don't feel you'll get much use out of it if I'm honest you, really only have one dedicated close combat unit. I'd again save yourself 25pts here as well.

Now, I assume you gathered I'm clipping points for a reason. The alpha strike dreads are a nice addition, but they do have a tendancy to blow up very quickly when dropped right in front of the enemy.

My suggestion is (if you have the models for it of course), drop the heavy flamers from 2 of them, giving you a grand total of 115pts to play with.

Use 100 of these points to upgrade the now heavy flamer-less dreads into venerables with great axe and blizzard shields.

Drop these down turn 1 in the enemy deployment and watch them squirm. The 3+ invul to the front armour is incredibly useful for keeping them alive, while you can still charge into vehicles or infantry units to make mince meat of them.

Last 15pts I'd put into the TWC, giving them another stormshield so they have 2 (by my count on points, they only have 1).

Overall though very nice list! I wish you luck!

hmm, very interesting suggestions. I definately like the dred kitting. that will happen. still tossy tervy on the lord/battle leader though leaning more towards your suggestion.

One big thing I am having a dilemma with right now are the longfangs or a DSing squad of kitted termies as mentioned in my list. thoughts?

It's completely up to you!
If you prefer using a lord than go for it! It's your list after all.

Hmmm, I am leaning more towards the longfangs at the moment. Missile launchers are very versatile weapons and as you say, a backfield presence can be very helpful.

My experience of DSing terminators is very mixed. Sometimes they work beautifully, other times they die in a storm of bullets. However, this list has a lot of "in your face" threats so I could see them working.

2000pt Space Wolves Tourny List - version... like 5 or something.

Ok, think i'm feeling pretty good about this list now. but always room for a comment. again this is meant to be a competitive get-in-their-face army. tell me what you think!

CoF Force Org

HQ:
Battle Leader w/ mount, runic armour, storm shield, krakenborn - 175pts
goes with TWC as counter assault/character hunting. as the whole unit rends, they wouldn't be bad tank hunters on the side.
Rune Priest w/ bike, hood, melta bombs - 95pts
bit of a mish mash of assualt and tank hunting with swiftclaws squad A. but i think a nice addition especially with a mobile hood and div roll.

Elites:
Venerable Dreadnought w/ great axe&shield, drop pod - 180pts
Venerable Dreadnought w/ great axe&shield, drop pod - 180pts
Dreadnought w/ MM, HF, drop pod - 140pts
A very formidable alpha drop force if i do say so (Thanks ShadowFury!). if its not bad enough having two bike squads, 4 razorbacks and a TWC squad running at you, hopefully dropping these guys in on top of them could really turn the tide if things start going south. Worst comes to wear, they are semi cheap fire magnets for a turn to get my other units in reach.

Troops:
Grey Hunter Squad A w/ 5 marines, melta, razorback w/ TLLC - 155pts
Grey Hunter Squad B w/ 5 marines, melta, razorback w/ TLLC - 155pts
I know, i know... who hasn't done this, right? well they aren't scoring anymore, so why not min-max them to get the extra tanks?

Fast Attack:
Thunder Wolves Cav w/ 4 marines: power sword, storm shield + melta bombs + frost sword, storm shield + twin claws - 250pts
Yeah.... its a land raiders worth of points, but im sure anyone worth their salt will do everything they can to stay away from this unit, maybe minus some HIGHLY specialized CC units, but ill deal with that as needed.
Swift Claws Squad A w/ 4 bikers + 1 bike leader w/ PF, melta, combi-melta - 155pts
Swift Claws Squad B w/ 4 bikers + 1 bike leader w/ PF, melta, combi-melta - 155pts
..tank hunters..... 'nough said?

Heavies:
Long Fangs Squad A w/ 4 fangs, 3 MLs, razorback w/ TLLC - 180pts
Long Fangs Squad B w/ 4 fangs, 3 MLs, razorback w/ TLLC - 180pts
Ok, so these guys do three things. 1. provide SOME kind of backfield presence 2. provide some versatile fire support 3. provide a few more tanks on the field. I really fought the idea of a drop pod termie squad instead, but remembered i dont think i ever made my points back with the termie set up, so i went with the extra fang squad.

2000pts. All comments welcome!
