Njal and his guys sit on the closest objective and let Njal's powers and Lord of Tempest effects do the rest.

The Grey Hunters charge the objectives.

The Battle leader and the Thunder wolves guard the Grey hunters.

The Land Speeders attack for the heavy tanks. (Land raiders, vindi's Hammerheads, etc)

The Long fangs provide fire support for the grey hunters.

I really don't like Njal tbh, he isn't worth his points and a battle leader is not that great either.

I completely agree with ahab here. If you want a group of HQ's that get you much more bang for your buck go with two rune priests without any gear and get a wolf lord with mount, SS, TH, and any other fixin you want.

If you dig the character, you can make it work... but just realize you have to tailor a list around him... It's possible but difficult. Typically, 1 Njall does not equal 2 Rune Priests. I have the model, but he's sat on my shelf and not seen a game (sadface)

Best use is if you and a friend are playing a narrative game... ie, fluffy senario based... at which point you could work him in. But for a pickup game where the expectation is "You bring your best and I'll bring mine" he's just not a very good choice. Especially since his cool powers are nerfed if you go second.

use Njal more aggressively would be one recommendation. from your first post you have him sitting at a home objective with 170 pts. of GH: that's 440 pts. of camping on an objective.

personally, i'd increase the size of he WG if possible, give them a drop pod and after you disperserse the WG attached to the GH he can ride with the rest of the WG squad. of course, you could do this with a cheaper RP, but i understand wanting to use your favorite models.

i'd drop the PW on the GH squads to reduce costs, and seriously try to make all of your TWC different for wound allocation. you've got 6 points left, give one of them melta bombs at least.

good hunting.

I went with what Inquisitor Malaclypse said and gave Njal a 5 man Wolf guard squad and a drop pod. I would probably use them as a flanking unit so I could get a good use of Njal's powers.

I upgraded the battle leader to a wolf lord and put different weapons on the thunderwolves for allocation.

Had to take out the las/plas razor backs for extra points. :(

If you like the model use it! I am new to the current edition and am re-learning some very simple things myself however if I have learned anything since 1988 when I started it is have fun.

Njal is pretty cool but I would agree that you could use his points differently in other models. In the last SW codex Rune Priest were pretty cool in hand to hand combat charging in with his Grey Hunters under Storm Caller. Now it seems Rune Priests just sit back and fire off powers.

Pick what you enjoy and roll with it! Have fun!

if your gonna give him a thunder hammer give him saga of the bear, other wise switch to a frost blade. S6 and power weapon with lots of attacks for cheaper. its good enough.
yup, not to mention you won't be going at I1, which is the bane of IC's in melee.

good hunting, and thanks for the rep!
