hi man, not bad a list :)
some notes:
-to pose a threat, 50-100 infantryman are not enough... I'd swap 2 vet units (that are not really adding nothing) for another platoon :
"Platoon Chaff"
PCS, 2 flamers
2 Infantry units, 2 flamers
(150)
Those units should go "unblobbed" and generally be a nuisance/screen units.
Also, i'd remove a HWS and a Hydra (unless you have a flyer spam in your meta, 2 will be enough to deal even with Shenron :D )
This will give you enough points to add another rough rider melta squad and another flamer unit to the "Platoon Chaff".
So you'd have more bodies, more MSU, more reliable antitank, altough with a bit less of anti air.
My two cents.

Hey bud, nice looking list.

Re: Veterans you generally take them for their special weapons. I would either get shut of them completely or load them up with Melta and pop them in Chimeras. This is personal preference. Foot slogging vets with no special weapons just seems like a waste of their flexibility.

I love the idea of Melta rough riders, how have these guys been performing for you? I am very tempted to convert some Catachan Saurus riders myself now to try these bad boys out. How did I not think of these!

Re: Artillery, I love Artillery...always bring Artillery. :)

3 Hydras, wow I have a feeling this is meta specific rock em if you need em. If not consider an Aegis D-line with Quad Gun. Somewhere for your platoon to hide as well as your Arty Park. If you drop 2 Hydra you can get one Hydra and a Quad Gun D-line which should be able to handle most fliers. Aldo you have auto cannons galore that can snap shot if it gets desperate.

In all though use what you enjoy and what works for you. Have fun.

I don't really understand the hate on the Vet squad with a lascannon. I see marine list all the time taking that 90 point 5-man tactical squad with a BS4 Lascannon. I just mathhammered it out a bit and it takes 30 bolter hits to cause all 5 unsaved wounds on the Tactical squad. It also takes 30 hits to drop a ten man vet squad in ruins and they cost ten points less with the same BS. They are both Ld8. The ten point difference would be for ATSKNF. But I'm thinking it's a bargan when your BS3 heavy weapons teams are using Autocannons. Again, I've never thought to use a Vet squad like that myself, but I might try it out now.

Its because they have access to so many special weapons like plasma or melta, which benefit from the higher BS.

And They Shall Know No Fear, power armour, better toughness, higher initiative, bolters, and bolt pistols.

Though to be honest I don't know what math-hammer your doing to get those numbers but thirty bolter hits doesn't wipe out either of those squad.

Assuming the bolter shots are coming from marines:
Tactical marines - ((5/.34)/.5)/.67=44 bolter shots
Veterans in ruins - ((10/.5)/.67)/.67=44.5 bolter shots
Veterans out of ruins - (10/.67)/.67=22 bolter shots

The difference between a five man, lascannon toting tactical squad and the veteran squad is that the veterans are married to cover from deployment onwards. The tacticals are not; if they are caught out in the open its not the end of the unit, at least not against most small arms fire.

My truck has access to four-wheel drive but it doesn't mean I have to ride around using it all the time. I just saw the entry and it made me think "hmm". I don't pretend to know everything about IG, I only got them to use as allies and I have only ever used them in Mech lists by themselves. I could just imagine a squad like this sitting in a bunker on my home objective instead of riding around in an overpriced Chimera with av10 sides that'll get blown up before they get into 4x4 range.

And I math hammered it out in terms of "hits" instead of shots. I did it in my head earlier but checked it against your formula and they both come out to 29 and some change hits after the part where you calculated for BS4.

I definitely agree that the marine squad is more durable when it comes to other weapons and CC though. I just thought it was a deal for a unit that is almost as tough, almost a deadly, and cheaper. I still have much to learn about IG though.

For an extra twenty five points you could take a heavy weapon team with three lascannons. Even with the lower BS your getting more hits and potentially doing more damage than the vet lascannon.

The thing is you really should be taking into account the number of shots you need to start with, not the number of hits caused after the BS (because here its the difference of 15.)

Both great points. I'm just ingrained into thinking like a space marine so I automatically made the bolter shots. And I also apologize if that last message had a "holier than thou" tone to it at all. My original message was much more thought out, but for the third time today I was writing with my wi-fi off and forgot to turn it on before hitting "post" and lost it. It's annoying being dumb.
