So i want to start on a new painting project and this time instead of a unit of one of model i want to do an army (with a small model count). I want to enter it into tournaments and go for best painted etc. I am however a competitive soul so want an army that can play well too. To keep the model count down i started with Imperial knights and added allies. I am not even sure if this list is legal (Detachments confuse me). For my allies i have selected Red Hunters

Imperial Knight Detachment (Primary Detachment):
Knight Errant: 370 Points
Seneschal
Knight Castigator: 380 Points
Knight Acheron: 415 Points

Combined Arms detachment:
HQ – Sammael on Sableclaw: 200 Points

TROOPS - 3 Bikes: 100 Points
2 Meltaguns,
TROOPS - 3 Bikes: 100 Points
2 Meltaguns,

ELITE - Mortis Dradnought: 125 Points
2x Twin linked Autocannon
ELITE - Mortis Dradnought: 125 Points
2x Twin linked Autocannon

Inquisitorial Detachment:
HQ – Ordo Malleus Inquisitor: 34 Points
3 Servo Skulls

Total: 1849 Points

There we have it, the bikes are used to capture objectives and protect my knights from vector strikes if need be by lining up in columns spaced out behind the knights to stop the vector striker from being able to place there base behind my knight. The Mortis' provide my AA

What do you think?

Edit:

I am thinking the best place to spend 100 points would be on an Inquisitor to gain Divination to my force, thoughts?

Thanks!

That castigator is brutal against infantry. The CSM list I'm working on would be pretty great against knights but even rage terminators with multiple power fists and chainfists (even with invisibility!) are going to get annihilated against that knight. They'd stand no chance- none. I guess the downside is MCs that are good against armour and aren't instant killed by S10 are a bit better off fighting this thing, but still... you can't even tarpit that knight with cheap bodies.

The other knight is pretty good too, but can you take both at the same time? Seems like they're both lords of war and aren't armies restricted to one?

Nope Mwhahaha

"Codex: Imperial Knights:
Cerastus Knight-Acherons may bechosen as part of a Codex: Imperial Knightsarmy as youwould other types of Knight. However, owing to their rarity in the 41st Millennium, you may not have more Cerastus
Knight-Acherons in your army than you have Knights of other kinds.

Other Armies of the Imperium Factions: A Cerastus Knight-Acheron may be taken as a Lords of War choice for any faction that is a part of the Armies of the Imperium"

I am using them in the Imperial knight codex :so_happy:

Because i have points spare i could easily upgrade my errant to a lancer:

http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Downloads/Product/PDF/L/lancer.pdf

However i would be giving up that Str10, Large blast, Melta but i would be good in combat

Mortis can only be taken by DA and their successors, (unless those are the magnificently expensive Contemptors) but it looks like a fun list.
I am sure i saw somewhere that this had changed. If i am wrong then i will just be swapping over to Dark Angels successor. Now i can get a AV14 land speeder for my HQ

Note with the changes to skyfire, if you're opponent is a skullfucking cuntbag who pays absolute attention to the letter of the law, you're going to need to move it just an ickle bit to prevent yourself from giving yourself skyfire if you want to target ground targets.

THATS RIGHT RULES, YOU BECOME MORE ACCURATE THE FASTER YOU MOVE

Personally I would drop the ML1 upgrade on the Inquisitor for TLACs on the Mortis (doubling their fire output), and Meltas in the second bike squad. Alternatly to dropping the Flamers, Melta Bombs for the Bike Sergeants.
Well i have just realised i have an additional 20 points to spend as Mortis are 105 not 115. This is what happens when you rely on army builder too much. However i still dont think i have the points for all that

Well this is gunna be fun, since we're not supposed to put specific points costs up on the site...

If you have 50 points to use from dropping the ML1 upgrade on the Inquisitor and the point mishap on your post, you can spend 50 upgrading the two Mortis's to having Autocannons (at 125 each) and on two instances of Melta Bombs -or- swapping the Flamers for Meltas.

Does that make sense? It totally adds up.

Has that happened to you Vaz? I mean...that's some sticklin' to the rules.
Yeh. Tbh I just eyeballed the guy until he said "okay, okay", it doesn't have skyfire, but I shouldn't need to.
