Pedro
Honour Guard 6 TH RBx2
Drop pod

Sternguard 10 6 Combis (Meltas or plasma)
Sternguard 10 10 Combis (Meltas or plasma)
Drop pod 2

Tac Squad 10 Vet Serg, ML PG
Rhino
Tac Squad 10 Vet Serg, ML PG
Rhino

Attack Bike 3

ADL Quad gun

Thunderfire Cannon

Both Sternguard and one tac squad combat squad. Tac squad mans quad gun. Keep the ML and PG to fire out the hatch. Keep to combis on the sternguard and don't swap the bolters to keep the special ammo.
7-8 scoring units.
Nearly everything has bolters of some sort, hitting on 3+ re rolling 1s.
Put TFC in bolstered terrain.
Pedro and HG give assault option.
Comes to 1850 exactly or I would have given all the sternguard combis.

This is the next list I am going to try.

Honour Guard 6 TH RBx2
This unit, I think, will be gunned down pretty terribly. I habitually drop a 10 man squad of marines and Deathwing squads in front of my opponent and if they make it to T2/T3 it's because of lucky dice/my ability (based on terrain and objectives) to put the heat on and distract. I also think that 6 THs are overkill in terms of points as well. They do come with power weapons after all, you can pull in a lot of AP2 just modelling some with Axes. Not to mention maintaining more attacks because the THs are Specialist Weapons.

Granted....this all may change in a couple weeks. I like that Honour Guard are 2+, but since I play Drop Pods I also keep them in mind when playing other armies and would totally eat that squad alive if it were to drop down in front of any of my lists.

You're really pumping the Scouts and bikes, @jc40kba. Neither are units I'm familiar with using in this kind of context so before I go ripping into what I would change here, do you have any ideas for what else you would like to add to your list? On the 24th the FoC can potentially fuck right off, you could take ONLY Sternguard if it made you happy. Not to mention everything if will be scoring anyway (still unsure of how this will function, take it as a rumour still) the only reason to take Kantor would be to give them the 'Objective, Secured' rule so that they can hold an Objective despite how close enemy units are. This is all just speculation though, mostly why I am not posting much in the way of lists right now. Super curious about the changes.

I think this should have been SS not TH and I was only taking 2 to soak up firepower.
 that's a lot of difference in points. This is a good unit to put Pedro into, but it won't make him any less squishy in combat since it's only a matter of Challenges until he's toast (against a real CC presence, anyway). Even when I Drop Pod in my Death Company they get mauled and they have natural 5+ Feel No Pain. I would say just be really careful about where they come in, hopefully with some cover. They'll just be standing there for a turn getting shot up, so anything will help.

Still, I think I'm more curious as to how scoring units in 7th and Unbound armies are going to work. If Sternguard are going to be scoring without having to take Pedro...forget taking Pedro. I will also have to see if special characters that unlock certain units as scoring can make them count for this 'Objective Secured' rule. In the instance of the Dark Angels, their special characters make Elites/Fast Attack choices Troops so that's clear cut to me. However Kantor here only makes Sternguard scoring, he doesn't change their spot in the FoC. Makes me curious as to how Crimson Fist armies will fit into the new system.

This is the rule that I'm talking about, the one that I am somewhat impatiently waiting to find out more on:

Yes, Pedro giving sternguard scoring is really his only benefit. You could equip a chapter master better for the same points.
I think I made a mistake, I don't think an honour guard can take SS. May have been looking at the command squad options.
The new rules will be interesting to say the least. Will reserve judgment till then.
