Army List will be updated as I receive comments.

Hi all. I'm thinking of starting a new army and Daemons looked exciting and fun filled!

Aims For The Army:

-To look amazing on the battlefield.
-To be fun to play with.
-Be in keeping with the fluff of Daemons.

So without further ado:

HQ

Bloodthirster - Greater Reward - 270

Herald of Tzeentch - Mastery Level 2, Locus of Conjuration - 95
Herald of Tzeentch - Mastery Level 2, Locus of Conjuration - 95
Herald of Khorne - Lesser Reward, Locus of Fury - 85

Troops

15 Bloodletters - Icon of Chaos, Banner of Blood - 170
16 Horrors - Instrument of Chaos - 154
16 Horrors - 144

Elites

None

Fast Attack

5 Screamers - 125
8 Flesh Hounds - 128

Heavy Support

Daemon Prince - Daemon of Khorne, Daemonic Flight, Warpforged Armour, Greater Reward - 240
Daemon Prince - Daemon of Khorne, Daemonic Flight, Warpforged Armour, Greater Reward - 240

Text written below probably has no relevance now I've edited the list, but may give you a hint at my thoughts!!

As for tactics I'm no expert yet! I'm thinking for all the Lesser Gifts to take the Etherblade and then for the Princes to take the Blade of Khorne.

The Heralds go in with the Troops choices. The Horrors and Flamers sitting in Deep Strike, and the hopefully coming out in a set of 1 Horror unit + 1 Flamer unit with the Instrument of Chaos. They'll probably come down near the Bloodletters (to reduce scatter) who will be sat pretty much in the middle of the park.

The Screamers will just fly around and hopefully do something epic!!

Finally, the Daemon Princes and Bloodthirster will fly around together and cause some distractions, carnage, etc. And probably some anti-air.

Please do rip this list up and tell me I've done it all wrong etc. Then hopefully I can get somewhere with it. Please do remember though the main objectives of the army as posted above. Thanks!!

Im assuming by fluff u mean no mixing hated gods?

I will go through ur list and put my opinions down:

Bloodthirster, take a greater reward and give him the khorne weapon, you dont have to use it (so dont worry about unwieldy) but just having it give him +1 attack for 2 weapons, and rampage which is an extra D3 attacks (which pumps up ur smash attacks too)

Heralds: Khorne Herlad is good
Tzeentch Heralds not so. They should be MLv 2-3 and have Conjuration and no rewards. that way they stay cheap and they really pump up ur shooting from ur Horrors (upto 4D6 str6 re-rolls to hit?) there is no point giveing them CC weapons and suiting up Horrors for CC, if they are in CC its too Late.

Bloodletters are good

Horrors need to be at least 16 strong to really shine if your going to use them as offencive and its not that much more expencive either. A great tactic with these guys (if ur only using them to hold objectives) is to use 1 squad of ten as an objective camper behind a defence line. 2+ coversave and u re-roll saving throws of 1? yes please! though if ur doing this the squad does not need a herald.

Flamers are bad this edition unless ur playing Horde armies, otherwise they will actually be a Hiderance more than help. I would Drop them for Flesh Hounds to help support ur bloodletters.

Screamers are priced correctly this edition. but use them in squads of 6 not 3 otherwise they just die too quickly. With these keep in mind that their charge attack is arguably not lost if u swap ur attacks for the AP2 attack as (if you follow SMASH's example that has been FAQed) you drop ur attacks first and then add +1 for charging, though please discuss this with ur opponent till it has been FAQed, though I think you should gain an extra attack if ur charge tbh.

Daemon Princes are fine but dont take the unwieldy khorne weapon unless ur taking the Lesser khorne weapon too. otherwise just keep whatever they roll as all the Greater gifts really help durability.

Agree with Duskan's suggestions, but over all not a bad list.

I'd recommend getting a Blood reaper with an axe of khorne in that letter unit on top of the herald (preferably with axe of khorne too) giving you two AP2 weapons in that unit, in case one of them gets tied up in a challenge you have another.

Those horrors could do with a bulk up. I don't think you need their icons either. If they are starting in reserve they aren't really helping one.

Tactics wise I would advice against deepstriking the horrors near the letters. Sure, they only scatter 6", but that leaves you wide open to mishaps as you find yourself landing on top of the Letters.

Flamers can be useful, particularly against guard and necron warriors. But the fact they have quite a high probability of giving someone feel no pain, perhaps you better leave them at home.

Due to the WD update they got before the release of the codex, screamers have suddenly become target number one in my area. They have come down a little bit since then but they are still a major threat. Be prepared to lose them quite quickly.

I don't think you can get +1 attack for having two weapons on the Prince/Bloodthirster because they are 'Specialist Weapons'?

I know the handing out feel no pain thing is a bit annoying, but the models are just sooooo cool!! Maybe I'll get some to just paint up and look at and never use!

Otherwise, I thank you both for your suggestions. I'll make some amendments above!

you still get +1 attack as long as u have 2 specialist weapons (hence two lighting claws or two power fists or a Powerfist and lightning claw all give +1 attack)

I love the flamer models. I played them pre update that made them broken. but now IMO they just aren't useable when I can get an extra say plague drone with upgrade for the price of two of them.

So far I've got 5 Flesh Hounds, which seems a little squishy. I was thinking of reducing the number of Bloodletters to 15 (which is still more than the average sized 40k squad size) to fit in 8 Hounds instead. Thoughts?

And it is written in the scrolls of the blood god:
Thou shalt never have too many Flesh hounds

Seriously, the more the better

Much better should do ok and be fun to look at and to play.

Only quibble is that ur Tzeentch heralds are priced wrong or written wrong. Check again buy I'm pretty sure 95pts is too cheap.

P.43 of BRB: Unwieldy: A model attacking with this weapon does so at Initiative step 1 unless it is a Monstrous creature or Walker.

Yes but u dont get anything apart from rampage. If u take the lesser gift too then u keep rampage and have ur instant death on 6s or take an etherblade as well and get mastercrafted.
