afternoon everyone. Here is a list I have come up with.
Armies in my area are mostly horde armies, Nids, IG, and the odd Tau.. does this one seem viable?

HQ
Space Marine Captain with Boltgun, relic blade, Artificer Armour

Elites

Sternguard Veterans. Sergeant has boltpistol exchanged with a powersword.
+ Drop Pod. The SM Captain rides with them.

Ironclad Dreadnought eqquiped with assault launchers and heavy flamer.
+ Drop Pod.
Ironclad Dreadnought eqquiped with assault launchers and heavy flamer.
+Drop Pod.

Troops

Tactical Squad (10-man) with plasma gun (I'm not sure if this works)
+Drop Pod.

Tactical Squad (10-man) with flamer
+Drop Pod.

Fast Attack
Assualt Squad with Flamer.
Sergeant with pair of lightning claws.

This adds up to 1490 pts.

I would look at adding a SS to Captain. He is going to be the main cc in your Sternguard group.

As for your Sternguard keep all of them with their bolt guns. You want them to have thier special ammo.

Hunter Killer missiles help on the drop with these guys. I dropped next to a SW squad and killed 3 with the 2 HK and melta gun after I flamed the squad. Just remember to flame first.

Remember that your squads get a free assault and a free heavy weapon at 10 man squad size. Add a ML, MM, or HB to both of your squads.

The problem I see with your assault squad is that you have no armor punch. Look at a fist or TH.

Over all your list has very little anti-armor or anti MC weapons.

drop the captain add kantor if you got him stern become scoring units and his orbital bombardment is nice against hordes. drop the plasma gun go for melta and missle launcher.

On the Captain I would add hellfire rounds so wounds on a 2+. A storm shield would be great. However a Chaplain or Librarian are better HQ choices as they benefit a unit or the army as a whole. Problem with the Captain with Sternguard is Sternguard are a shooting unit; you don't want them in assault.

Drop the power weap on the Sternguard, they're a shooting unit not assault you're paying for that special ammo!

Everything is going to Drop Pod in while that Assault Squad slowly brings up the rear or deep strikes in. Either way it's going to get shot so I would drop it.

Oh, with all these Pods homing beacons would be helpful too.
