So, after not having gotten a game of Warhammer in for months, I've found a new place where they play pickup games (1000 or 1500 depending on the number of players) on a Sat. I want to take my VC along to give them a try. My 1K list is set but here is the 1500pt list I was thinking of taking:

Vampire Lord w/ Lvl 2 - Lore of Vampires, Armor of Destiny, Shield, Quickblood, Dark Acolyte - 363
Necromancer w/ Lvl 2, - Lore of Vampires, Talisman of Endurance, Dispel Scroll - 155
30 Skeletons w/ Full Command, Screaming Banner - 205
24 Zombies w/ Standard, Musician - 82
6 Dire Wolves - 48
5 Dire Wolves - 40
21 Grave Guard w/ Great Weapons, Full Command, Banner of the Barrows - 332
Spirit Host - 45
Spirit Host - 45
Varghulf - 175
TOTAL: 1490

So, with the extra 10pts do I drop the Dark Acolyte for a 3rd magic lvl on the Vamp? Do I just pump up the zombies or skelies? I was leaning toward swapping Acolyte for Lvl 3. Acolyte will boots my Invocations but the extra spell lvl will help boost all my spells (Dwarfs will be there) and dispel attempts (I know for sure there will be WE w/ a lvl 4). Having no real punch to the army aside from the vamp (just going w/ the models I currently own), though, the extra 1-3 pips added to Invocation will help keep the ranks boosted vs all the shooting I know I'm going to be up against.

I know a lvl 4 Master Nec would solve the magic issue but I need the vamp for that swift kick to the nuts vs speedy elves and tough dwarfs.

Any of you seasoned VC players have some good advice?

Not a seasoned VC player, although they are my most regular opponents army of choice.

In the spirit of expanding rather than narrowing your choices, I am not certain whether the champion in the Skeleton unit is as good as other options; VC champions do have more durability because they keep coming back, but not sure if it is better than more magic.

So you could drop a Dire Wolf from the 6-woof unit, and the Skeleton Champion to have Dark Acolyte and Lvl 3

Thanks for the tips Dave. Unfortunately:
1) I have the bare minimum in Core w/ the listed selections which includes all 11 wolves and the skellie champ (I suppose I could have just added 2 more in place of the champ but I figured the champion would be a good addition if I decide to drop the Necro in there)
2) Giving the vamp Lvl 3 AND Acolyte would take him ... well, her, actually ... beyond the 375pt max for Lords

And I also just realized today that my Necro is illegal (has 55pts of magic items :( ). So, I figure I'll just drop the scroll from the Necro and tack on the Lvl 3 in place of the Acolyte to help w/ dispel attempts. Also, this leaves an extra 25 points so I may as well give the Necro Master and tack on one more skellie for good measure.
