well, after taking my drop for the past 3 years i'm really thinking about taking a new army to astro toronto later this year... as the eldar have a shiny new 'dex and so many sexy new models, they're an obvious choice!

now, astro is very different in that scoring units are the key to doing well... killing your opponent is always secondary to the specific mission objective, and 99% of astro missions rely on scoring units!
so with that in mind, i'm thinking about a 'more bodies' approch, hence the lack of exarchs... (for all those pts i can squeeze in the 2nd avenger unit & guardian defenders!)

comments & crits much, much welcomed as i've never played eldar before!

It might be just me (I'm on a break @ work), but I'm having a difficult time seeing the battle plan in this list. Can ya help me out?

okay, tactics;

- well the cheap HQ is because all astro missions place high value on the mission objective itself. (generally taking and holding various locations and/or grabing counters) as IC's aren't ever scoring units, i've decided to go the cheap route so i can spend more pts on proper units!

- the dragons are obviously anti-tank. their serpent is set-up for a pure anti-infantry role to provide support and take out nearby enemy units who could mug the dragons in my opponent's turn.

- the banshees don't get a transport because they can't assault out of it... fleet of foot will have to make up for the lack of a fast ride.

- the 2 avenger units will support eachother and form a loose 'front line'. jolinar will likely join one of them and doom whatever really needs to die fast!

- the storm guardians can either mug anyone trying to assault the avengers, or else they can keep pace with the banshees and lend their numbers to a fight.
the warlock's shining spear is to help in case the unit gets stuck fighting a dreadnought or similar!

- the guardian defenders are simly there to hold/contest my deployment zone... find some nice solid cover and plug away with the roket launcher! they can also provide some in-close shuriken fire to help protect the reapers from any nasty assault troops.

- the guardian bikes provide escort for the spears. the unit is 6 strong so i could get the 2nd shuriken cannon!

- the spears are my fast flank... they either fly up with the dragons for a solid flank attack or else they can go after the opposite flank and force my opponent to make a decision over which is more threatening!

- the reapers hide in terrain near the defender guardians and lay down some nice MEQ killing shots.

- the walkers can either stay back and provide cover fire, or else advance and provide cover fire! 16 S6 shots/turn is bound to worry even MEQ's...

well, that's it! hopefully i'm not too off my rocker...
i still have some pts left to blow too so i can be a bit flexable. i'd really, really like to work even a small unit of harlequins in :D i've been contemplating droping mind war and a reaper to bring the unit down to a round 4...

any help is muchly welcomed!

***Well if you want cheap drop Doom or Mind War, probably Mind War. This guy would be better equipped with Guide, Doom and Spirit stones supporting your static firebase.

***Good unit size, good weaponry for serpent. However that Serpent NEEDS Spirit stones to keep moving. It really should have Vectored engines too, but SS are a must. Also with you overall lack of AT an EML wouldn't go amiss

***Good luck getting these to do anything against a switched on player. A couple of tornadoes or any mutlishot will wipe these out in no time. Even if they do get to assault they'll likely be so mauled that they'll bounce against anything. They need a Serpent to get them into charge range. You can still charge if you disembark before the Serpent's moved.

***Pretty good units, although a Bladestorm Exarch would be very useful. Pretty much counter assault though. If you leave them hanging out with no viable targets they'll just get shot up. Not sure you need 2 squads with the plethora of troops you have. I'd personally drop the Stormies and use the points to upgrade these guys to 10 each with a bladestorming shimmershield exarch and dual catapults. Hard to shift in combat and shooty.

***I suppose you need the AT, but a one shot BS3 weapon is only good if taken in multiples. not the best choice for these guys unless guided.

***I think these guys are junk now, but if you do insist on taking them give the Warlock Conceal so that they don't all die in the next stiff breeze and give them a pair of flamers.

***A bit unwieldy at 6, you can split them into 2 squads of 3 and get more use from them. It will help keep them alive and scoring as you can use terrain better.

Fast attack: 4 Shining Spears each w/Laser lance & Jetbike w/Twin-linked Shuriken catapult.
Cost; 140 pts

***These guys need the exarch for the extra attack and WS if nothing else.

Heavy Support: 5 Dark Reapers each w/Reaper launcher.

***Considering your lack of Anti-tank an exarch with Fast shot and EML wouldn't go amiss.

Heavy Support: 2 War walkers each w/2 Scatter lasers.
Cost; 120 pts

***Consider that you can get 3 Walkers with 2x shuriken cannon each for the same price.

Total; 1468 pts

Overall, you are very light on Anti-tank and have a few choices which will likely get killed quite easily if they go for objectives.
