I'm planning on building an army using some old Fantasy Chaos Warriors, the models of which I love, but which I never play any more. I'm basically going to replace their Chaos Warrior arms with CSM bolter arms, and use them as the 'thousand sons' in this army. For the Raptors, I'm torn between trying to add Raptor jump packs to the Warriors or finding a good set of wings to use. I'm also considering buying some Ogre Kingdoms leadbelchers and then adding extra weapons on 'em to be the obliterators, but I'm not totally convinced about that idea yet.

HQ:
Daemon Prince - MoT, Wings, Warptime - 175

Chaos Sorcerer - Force Weapon, MoT, Disc, Wind of Chaos, Melta Bombs - 190

Troops:
8 Thousand Sons - Sorcerer w/Doombolt - 231

8 Thousand Sons - Sorcerer w/Doombolt - 231

Fast Attack
9 Raptors - Champ w/ Fist, Tzeentch, Flamer, Meltagun - 275

Heavy Support
2 Obliteraters - 150
2 Obliterators - 150
1 Chaos Predator - Autocannon, HB sponsoons - 100

Total: 1502

Any comments on the List or the idea in general would be welcome.

the sorcerer adds up to be about 195
the DP doombolt seems a little wasteful, i know its10 points, but i'm sure you could find a better place for those points.
Mght i suggest rhinos for your sons? Everything else in your army has a relatively good amount of mobility while your sons are footsloggin' difficult terrain all the time

anyways good list, and good ideas for the conversions. The only thing i don't like are the obliterators with ogre bitz.

It looks like a really fun army....

The only thing I might change, and this is my personal preference and not a hit on your list, is that I would replace the Pred with a Defiler... but that would leave you needing to shave a few points from somewhere.

Your ideas for the army models sound pretty cool. The WHFB Chaos Warriors would look like very archaic TSons, indeed. The OK Leadbelchers for Obits make for a very unique idea, especially with a ton of armor add-ons. Something will have to represent their 2+ save...

Good luck, mate, and drop some pics for us when you get the chance!

Good catch on the points value with the sorc. Had to drop the doombolt, some melta bombs and the extra bolter on the pred to afford the guy. The only way I could reasonably get transports for the 1ksons is to drop the Predator. Makes me feel a little naked as far as anti-horde armies, though. Might be able to pull it off if I put some havoc launchers on them for anti-mob, but I haven't really used havoc launchers, so I'm not entirely sure of their efficacy.

I tend to put havoc launchers on my static emperors children rhinos. It's the same points as my Tsons rhinos with extra armour. So while the rhinos for my Tsons move valuable troops, the other rhinos for my emp children stay and shoot at the oncoming wave, and if need be, redeploy my children.
And as a question, what do you plan to do with your prince? what is his battlefield role?

The prince is good for a few things:
a) Attracting fire from weapons that would insta-kill my obliterators
b) Fighting stuff with 2+ saves that I can't shoot to death with my Sons.
c) Providing another fast-moving, hard hitting thing so that I'm not left with a single unit of raptors w/sorc to fulfill that role.

honestly of all the choas psychic abilities winds of chaos strinks me as a decent add on to a DP. the ability to strike with winds before assaulting in tends to do me a huge favor in allowing for a massacre.of course i have play tested little in the way of psychic powers due to always seemingly fighting eldar....

the only problem seems to be your reliance on psychic powers. It seems to me that your strategy and tactics rely on you passing those tests, so try to find a way around that. The way you use your prince is good, the only problem i see is his points cost, if he was just 130ish it wuld be fine(i.e. just wings) but i do enjoy running up to dev squads saying "i have a 4+ bitch" and then killing them in combat.
