Hi guys,

My first game of WFB tomorrow and this is the friendly list I made. I do have other options that I had to scrap keep to it within the point list, but experimentations will come.

Orc Warboss, Iron Gnashers, Um's best boss hat, UA Axe 205

NG Level 2 Shaman, mad cap mushies 105

25 boys, shields, full command 180

33 boys, extra choppa, full command 261

50 Night Goblins, spears, full command, 2 fanatics

25 NG, short bows 75

20 NG, short bows 60

2 boar chariots 160

3 river trolls 180

Horde rule for the gobbo spearmen, decided to split the bow troops and leave command out, they can flee if they want. Just wanted to get plenty units on the table and I'll mess about with formations if I get another game.

Hi,

thanks or the reply. As soon as I woke up this morning I knew I needed the BSB! I have an Orc BSB on a boar, so I may use him. Not sure what to drop, perhaps 5 gobbos and some of the boys with extra choppa. Cheers anyway, I'll probably play as is and see how many of the gobbos leg it. How good is a reroll on LD5 anyway? :(

Hey, I see quite a few changes that would make this a better list; I'm going to post below your units in purple with my comments.

Orc Warboss, Iron Gnashers, Um's best boss hat, UA Axe 205
This guy could be greatly improved upon. For one thing (as I haven't played eighth edition yet) can you even take a warboss below 2000 points? If you can than take off the gnashers, and UA axe. Then make him a Borc, give him Martog's Best Basha (better for prolonged combat), the kicking boots for +1A, a boar and a shield (enchanted or otherwise). This will make him a tank.

As I don't actually think you can take a Warboss below 2k (though as I said, I could be mistaken) you should scrap him and use his points for the following configurations.

Borc Big Boss
-Heavy Armor, Boar
-Martog's Best Basha
-Shield
-Best Boss 'At or swap for enchanted shield
and

Borc Big Boss
-Heavy Armor, Boar
-BSB: Martog's Spirit Totem

These are both high quality leaders, and will serve you well. If it turns out you can use a Warboss before 1500 pts than try to include the BSB as well.

NG Level 2 Shaman, mad cap mushies 105
If you are only going to take one I recommend scraping him and going for the BSB above. In a unit with full ranks he will increase their ld, fight better than they will, and add +3 dispel dice!

25 boys, shields, full command 180
Nice, maybe get another?

33 boys, extra choppa, full command 261
Oooh. I personally dislike choppa boyz, they cost more generally than the shield boyz, die quickly to missile fire, and don't have enough survivability in melee combat. Use the points to get another 25 shield boyz?

50 Night Goblins, spears, full command, 2 fanatics
If you are going to actually waste the points on spears and full command for these guys you might as well get nets and 3 fanatics as well. This unit looks just like a massive points sink to me; This would be a good solid block (sorta) in a goblin army, but in a mixed army this does not seem like a good idea to me.

25 NG, short bows 75
I recommend away from these blokes, and if you have to take some take blocks of 20 with musician.

20 NG, short bows 60
Same as above

2 boar chariots 160
I have had mixed experiences with these ... make sure you use them in conjunction with a block of infantry.

3 river trolls 180
Downgrade them from river troll status back to regular troll. The extra points for each model is one of the most over priced things in our book. Keep them close to the generals 12" ld bubble to keep them from stupid.

How good is a reroll on LD5 anyway?
Really really good. Because it won't be on ld 5, it'll be on the generals 12" ld bubble. Giving them ld 8-9. Lots better right?

Thanks for the reply there. I appreciate that the Black Orcs are a better option for leaders but I don't want any in my army. The game turned into a nightmare, I made a real mess of setting up and my Night Goblins were ambushed, fanatics were released, missed their target and spent the following turns ploughing back through my own unit. The goblin Shaman did really well though, the Foot of Gork wiped out a unit of minotaurs. We didn't manage to finish the game as setting up so many models took me forever!
