Came up with a new list so opinions welcomed:

HQ

CCS w/ Lascannon + MoO

Tank Commander in Vanquisher w/Lascannon + Executioner w/sponson HBs

Troops

PCS w/4 meltaguns

4 IS w/ 1 commissar + 3 GL + 4 AC's

PCS w/4 flamers

3 IS w/ 1 Psyker

Fast

2 Vendettas (not same squad)

Heavy

2 Wyverns (same squad)

Ye so the CCS is gonna issue out orders plus with MoO and Lascannon offer up fire support. The tank commander & co will contend with tanks and most infantry with split fire.

The troops...well what can I say lotsa dakka with the AC's and GL's. Commissar will keep the bulkier platoon with all the bigger guns at bay. The 2nd platoon will of course dish out their good share of it and the psyker will make sure where needed units have twin linked (mostly with the executioner).

The 2 PCS's will ride in the Vendettas taking out tanks and infantry where it needs it.

The wyverns are just the guards own suped up Thunderfire cannon. That's 8 shots, ignoring cover, blast, twin linked and shredding.

I feel like with a bigger list I can make the most of this. With a 1750 list I can have an Aegis line, few more IS squads with more AC's and GLs.

There's no Chimeras. The 2 Vendettas will take the PCS's to objectives.

No plasma sponsons cos 1) gets hot, 2) for the points cost and mostly gonna have one side and so 1 sponson facing the target unit. So I opted for HB's instead. Also a guard list is suppose to be mostly lotsa cheap units...well relative given how much an Exacutioner costs.

Hey, that sure is an interesting list that you have going there.

Are you usually playing on a terrain heavy table? I find a frustrating part of playing guard is that a CCS makes for a very easy warlord kill if I don't take steps to protect them, Aegis lines, bunkers or APCs being the best bet.

I've really enjoyed giving out one or two orders to surrounding combined squads to deny cover or give tank/monster hunters, only to use my second or third (thanks to warlord traits) to splitfire my MoO at the oncoming ork horde or whatever was appropriate. Having said that, the old Master of Ordinance is not exactly what I'd call an auto-include. Cool idea, so I often do, but very unreliable (unlike real artillery).

Ye my list does rely on there being at least some decent amount of terrain. I did try an Aegis line, but then some Chaos dudes outflanked and baked a platoon with a bunch of flamers. Which is why I also have this list:

HQ

CCS w/ Lascannon

Tank Commander in Vanquisher w/Lascannon + Executioner

Troops

PCS w/4 meltaguns

5 IS w/ 1 commissar + 4 GL + 4 AC's

Vets w/3 flamers and Chimera

Fast

2 Vendettas (not same squad)

Heavy

2 Wyverns (same squad)

So ye swapped out the 2nd platoon for a vet squad in Chimera with flamers and the Skyshield big for platoon and possibly the artillery and 4+ invun
