Hey Guys,

Want some thoughts on this 1500 marine list I'm painting them up in Sons of Orar/Ultrasmurf colours so ill decide that later but onto the list, I'm not sure about the Stormraven should I take it or a Normal land raider? The anti-tank goodness which this list lacks isn't as prevalent on the storm raven with just MM/AC compared to double T/Las and machine spirit on the land raider.

I've gone for a little bit of a mech feel with this company being specialised against orks as the are in a constant campaign against them in a sectors haven't written fluff for yet, so they have had to change tactics which explains the outfitting of most choices, I wanted a 4x heavy Bolter Devastator squad but can't do it unfortunately they just cost too much for 10.

Well the anti-ork fever isn't completely wasted as a bunch of friends and I are leading up to a big game of orks vs marines so need to be able to kill some boys en masse!

I wanted the company to feel like it specialised in hit and run tactics which is why I've chosen to go mech.

Should I go for missile launchers over the heavy Bolters in my tactical squads or just go half/half like I have currently.

Well firstly land raiders suck at anti tank they need to be moving forward then support what theyve just unloaded..... so if you want to go land raider id go for a redeemer/crusader this allows you to support your honour guard. However the storm raven i think will add more to your list as its its a mobile MM platform for anti armour.

Anyway onto your list

Chapter master adds very little to what a captain would contribute and with a powerfist is fighting at below potential.... id drop the chapter master to a captain and remove the power fist and power weapon to a relic blade or even better take a librarian or two (that last bits personal opinion)

Honour guards are ok but only in higher point games a cc kitted out command squad would be more suitable.

Tactical squad 1 - take the missile launcher and drop the storm bolter on the razor back. With the points saved above upgrade the razorback upgrade to TL las or las/plas (this will help with the anti armour problem)

Tactical squad 2 - drop the melta bombs and storm bolter and upgrade the razorback again.

Storm talon - looks good

Stormraven - all ready touched on.

Vindicator and predator - chronus just sucks i mean he's never really done me any help. Also storm bolter adds very little. Id drop one and go with two of the other. This is down to you Id personally drop the vindicator and go for two auto/las predators as they can rip everything from troops to heavy vehicles up (provided heavies take some luck).

However an alternative is to take one predator and throw some attack bikes into the mix. With MM they can act as Armour hunters or with heavy bolters can work as mobile support platforms.

I havent got my codex handy so Im not sure exactly where my changes would take you but I hope its been helpful.

I agree and disagree with joebauerek on a couple of things.

1. I would keep the Chapter Master and kit him out with what was recommended for the Captain. Chapter Master has Orbital Bombardment which is a nice little template.
2. Missile Launchers are King, I don't know about anyone else, they're a anti-horde and anti-armour. You can tank hunt with them, but, not with the extra damage the Melta throws out. Odds are they will get Flakk missiles when the new 'dex issues in October which makes them all the better.
3. The Honour Guard seem fine and, with the CM, they can have serious damage output.
4. Drop Chronus, he's a points sink and frees up room to throw into other areas.
5. The Talon is fine and helps with armour.
6. I'd consider adding Hurricane Bolters to the Raven. If this is transporting anyone then the Bolters will help clear some road. Also, I'd consider giving it Las on the turret.
7. I agree about the Auto/Las Predator, it can kick some to say the least.
8. I understand the Vindicator, and I'm not recommending dropping it since it is a Pie Plate that can tear things up.

Thanks for the replies I didn't end up dropping the heavy bolter marine as I like the model too much haha, I've made a few changes here and there due to suggestions the storm Bolters on the razorbacks are to prevent me losing the heavy Bolter and if they do can still support the marines.

The reason why the chapter master still wears the same wargear is because I'm converting a marneus Calgar in power armour model. I'm going to use the terminator marneus for his honour guard for this guy too converting the champion to have a thunder hammer and the sheathed blade from the fantasy witch hunter kit.

Thanks for your replies this is my revised list in 2000 ill probably add some terminators and two Dreadnoughts or one dreadnought and see Sternguard.

Here's another version of the list that I quite like with Pedro the Veterans are still putting out a lot of damage in close combat and I really want to keep the Stormtalon and Stormraven.

I'm thinking of trying to fit twin-linked Lascannons or las/Plas onto one of the razorbacks to share the anti-tank/infantry love. That way each squad it's transport and its supporting vehicle all have designated roles to improve synergy the reason why Sternguard now is that it allows me to get another scoring unit with good ranged firepower and good close combat potential, I see the Stormraven hovering down and them charging out firing Bolters as they go while the Stormraven unloads missiles Bolter rounds and assault cannon rounds into my enemies strafing to the side to avoid incoming fire while the Stormtalon flies in for strafing runs.

Wild imaginations and all if only it would look like that on the tabletop haha :)
