Ok, so i have a friend who is keen to buy some wardollies, and after playing a game or 2 with a borrowed Deathwing army he has decided that this is the army he wants to buy.

Our playgroup is fairly competitive, and i was wondering what exactly a competitive Deathwing list would consist of.

The army he has used consists of...

Belial
3 or 4 units of 5 Termies with various weapons
Dread
Whirlwind
Land Raider Crusader

Would Deathwing be more competitive on foot or in Land Raiders?
How should the Terminator squads be equipped?

His main opponents will be...
- BW Orks (3BW, Boyz, 2KFF, 9Buggies, etc)
- Salamanders (LRR, TH/SS Termies, Vulkan, LSpeeders, Dreads, Rhinos, Pods, etc)
- CSM (LR, Kharn, Berzerkers, Plagues, Oblits, Termies, Rhinos, etc)
- Mixed Orks (BikerBoss, Bikes, Boyz, Lootas, Trukks, etc)
- Nids (Tyrant, Trygon, Carni, Warriors, Gaunts, Stealers, etc)
Plus a few other random armies like 1KSons, SW, more CSM, IG, etc.

As he wants me to buy the army for him, i was thinking about just getting him a heap of AoBR Termies off ebay, as well as a few Assault Cannons from ebay or a bits store. The thing im not sure about is if i should be getting him Dreads and Land Raiders too, or if they arent worth it.

So, any list ideas for 1500 points are very much appreciated, as well as any advise as to what i should be purchasing for him.

Cheers.

Of course first and foremost is a core of terminators for your troops. The ravenwing box is another sound investment for someone just starting DA. The bikes are great in small melts squads and the Landspeeder can be turned into sammael. The box has all sorts of bits for sprucing up your tanks and dredds. I use a land raider and will be using two soon but they aren't required. I like using tllc/ml dreadnaughts and they always perform well. If you don't use points on much else you can get 20-25 terminators in 1500pts. That's bad news for anybody. Deathwing assault with the scout moves on bikes brings first turn deep striking terminator goodness. On the other hand you could load a land raider or two with assault terminators ( int. chaplain, standard, lc's and flamers) and roll across the table to beat someone up. Both armies types work just depends on your playstyle.

I run a 'pure' DW list, so only TDA, Dreads, LR's...it might be handicapping myself but DW is the 'fluffy' list part of my 40K hobby so I care little about adding RW etc.
Belial - TLC's
Chaplain - TDA
4 Squads w/ AC, CF included
LRC
LRC

Does well enough, but DW isn't a starter army.
