i would drop one unit of grey hunters, add a dread with MM+HF and put him in a pod.
then you have left over points to change it up for more melta and less plasma.

I would drop one unit of GH and the pod on the LF and I would add 2 LS with MM and HF.

Im new to 40k so im just curious. Why would you drop a pod empty? Wouldnt your opponent know its empty anyway.

is it because it does damage when it lands?

No, drop pods don't damage when they land. It is great against horde armies as well as other armies.

You can put people into firing lanes or block your enemies firing lane and it becomes an extra piece of terrain which you can place where you want... sort of

I would still suggest the ls because they are cheaper and you have a better chance of killing something for the turn it is on the table.
