Well in a couple of weeks me and my friends are having a 2-on-1 game, me and my mates tau vs a mates black templar army. I came up with this list:

HQ-

Captain w/ storm shield, power weapon and digital weapons- 140pts

Troop-

x2 Tactical squad (x10) w/ flamer + missile launcher, sergeant with power fists, rhinos - 460pts

Fast Attack- Vanguard Veteran squad (x5) w/ 5 power weapons, Razorback with twin linked plasma and lascannon - 270pts

Heavy Support-

Predator w/ lascannon sponsons and hunter killer missile - 130pts




I know my mates black templars will have a squad of terminator sword brethren in a landraider and atleast a vindicator and my tau ally has a hammerhead, 12 fireworriors and the rest crisis suits. So in short all the heavy fighting is on me :laugh: so does anyone have any ideas as how I could improve?

I only have the tactical squads with one rhino atm so i will also have to be getting some of these improvements, but ill have a moderate amount of cash so shouldn't be too bad with getting the new models.

Looks pretty cool, very CC, I would make sure that he is in a transport with one of the squads, as he has no gun to shoot :) In fact, put him with the Vanguard squad in the Razorback, since he will make most sense with them.
Troop-

As you know that he will definitely be using a LR and some termis, I would try and replace the flamers with Meltas.
Fast Attack- Vanguard Veteran squad (x5) w/ 5 power weapons, Razorback with twin linked plasma and lascannon - 270pts
My only problem with Vanguard is that they never seem to do their job well. They don't seem to last for me. But I like the squad, and I like the transport.

I like the Heavy Support, can be used to be very deadly...

So, all in all, you've just gotta try and free up points somwhere for the meltas. (If you want!!)

But it does look a nice list!

Hey Welcome to heresy!

Id change the vanguard razor to just to have a hb on top as its gonna be targetted pretty quick anyway, use those points to upgrade your hq with a relic blade, (its brutal against meq) can give both your tac squads mg and maybe give your vanguard sgt a relic blade or a pfist

He doesn't get an extra attack, so give him a single lightning claw (or proxy it, if the game is friendly). You'll have all wounds rerolled instead of only one. And digi-weapons will become free points.

I second the lord of Ultramarines - if there's Land Raider (and marines!) on the field, meltaguns will be of more use than flamers.

This guys are deadly for sure, but if their mighty AV11 dies in the firefight, they'd have to walk their way into the melee. So I'd suggest you to take one PW away or at least swap it for 2*LC - for the sake of having cheap throwaway model in the unit.

HKM on a AC/las Pred is like a TNT rigged to the nuke. If you really need it - give it to some other Rhino to split fire. And if you hope to get extra punch against LR - it won't likely to work.

If you'd take this advise and have some spare points afterwards, you may consider:
a) giving Lascannon to one of the Tac squads (to have a really great long antitank punch);
b) giving a plasmagun to one of the Tac squads (to cheer up opponent's Termies);
c) giving a Relic Blade to the Captain (pretty standard combo).

Good list, btw (everything I've suggested is just hair-splitting).

Me and my friend (tau player) have been thinking and we came up with an idea to alter my first list and take

HQ- Librarian - w/ the gate of infinity and votex of doom - 100pts (pretty much to move his crisis suits around)

Elite- x2 Dreadnought w/ x2 twin linked auto cannons - 250pts

Troops- x2 tactical squads w/ flamer, missile launcher in a razorback with twin linked plasma and lascannon - 490pts

Heavy support-x2 Predator w/ heavy bolter sponsons -170pts

total- 1010pts (mate said i could have 10 points from him)

we thought that gate of infinity, his crisis suits next to the land raiders we know will be taking (he stated his intention to take an all mech list). So the riflemen dreds will be perfect for ripping open transports. Gun lining the razorbacks, predator and hammerhead.
This a better idea or is the first list better? (i also currently have librarian so it would make it cheaper for me :L but im looking for a captain anyway so im not bothered :L)

looks good, but if you are going to gunline the razors then you wont be able to keep the CC combat squad safe and they will die in CC, drop the fists and get something else, maybe plasmaguns.

Correct me if im wrong, but isnt a rifleman dread 125pts, so the 2 of them would be 250?

If you're worried about that Land raider here's an unpleasant little guy your mate ought to take (so you can focus that predator on vaporising those terminators):

Crisis suit
twin fusion blaster
flamer (cheapest 3rd hard point, and might actually be useful if he survives)
total: 50 something points (I think, don't have my book to hand but it's pretty small anyway)

Have him take this guy as one elite choice. Deep strike him ASAP as close to the Landy/vindicator as you dare and blow it sky high. If he doesn't get it he WILL draw a lot of firepower (taking the flak off you units), so if he dies it's no major problem, and if he does get it (odds are fairly reasonable for 40K) then whoop de do, he can harass terminators for a while until he eventually gets taken down. My Tau army always has one of these Death-Or-Glory boys.

What this means for your marines is you can then focus on the other vehicular threat, but I'd actually go against what a few guys have said and keep that plasma gun, as it's so handy for hunting terminators and marines (soften them up and use your veterans to finish them)
