Hello,

I have a game this coming weekend that involves some friends of mine. I'm wanting to run the following list for this and curious as to some C&C.

Imperial Fists Chapter Tactics

HQ
Master of the Forge w/Conversion Beamer & The Armour Indomitus

Troops
Tactical w/ Heavy Bolter, Plasmagun, Stormbolter
Tactical w/ Heavy Bolter, Plasmagun, Stormbolter
Tactical w/ Heavy Bolter, Plasmagun, Stormbolter
Tactical w/ Heavy Bolter, Plasmagun, Stormbolter
Tactical w/ Multi Melta, Meltagun, Combi Melta
Tactical w/ Multi Melta, Meltagun, Combi Melta

Heavy
Devastator Squad w/ +5 Marines, 4 Lascannons
Devastator Squad w/ +5 Marines, 4 Plasma Cannons
Devastator Squad w/ +5 Marines, 4 Missile Launchers w/Flakk

That's it. I know its very similar to other lists I've posted in the past couple of months save the fact it has a MotF w/ goodies and no Assault Squads. I figure at this point level that since I don't have enough room for 2 Assault Squads that I would forego using them.

I like the idea of the Armour Indomitus on the MotF as it gives him Relentless, 2+ armour and 4+/2+ Invulnerable.

Thoughts? Ideas?

how do you plan to deal with and armies with speed and range?
Well, range isn't too much of a problem, IMHO, as I have a decent amount of ranged weapons. Speed of the other person's army will just have to depend on how I play my turns. Making crappy decisions will almost certainly mean I will lose a game, whereas, paying attention means I can at least defend a bit.

Admittedly, the list doesn't cover "all bases" and I realize that. There isn't a flier to speak of nor is there any Aegis Defense Line with Quad/Las to shoot with. However, there is a decent amount of punch to it for armour and infantry.

Really, I believe that with this list, like in most games, will come down how I move around the board and how I set my units up during deployment. My tactical squads won't be running off individually to try and take on the world my opponent throws at them. Typically, they move depending on how my opponent has arranged his army. I've had games where two Tactical Squads move with one another to handle objectives/opposing infantry and then there have been games where they moved around the board in groups of three due to larger threats/horde builds.

Typically, the Devastators will sit in the background and fire at decent range to do damage. The MotF will certainly have to be in the back to make his Beamer worth its points.

I wouldnt bother with the Armour Indomitus, I assume the MotF is attached to one of the devastator squads to avail of Tank Hunter and some meatshields? If so the squad will normally wish to remain stationary anyway to fire their own weapons, so relentless isnt all that helpful. The MotF already has a 2+ save due to aetificer armour, so you're paying for a 4++, and a one phase 2++, which must be activated at the start of the phase.

Apart from WYSIWYG, I would never bother with storm bolters on sergeants. If you lose one tactical squad (or some of the meat shields in the devastator squads) and the armour on the MotF, you can buy the MotF a bike (for relentless and Jink), put combi weapons on the remaining sergeants and buy either some transports for mobility, either Rhinos or Drop Pods, or get a storm talon for AA.
