Necromunda map making

If you haven't seen my thread in the homebrew fluff subforum, I'm going to be starting a necromunda campaign. However, I'm having trouble creating or finding a map to use in the underhive, Dome 37. Every time I make one for myself, it turns out to be too blocky or I just don't like it.

Does anyone have any tips for campaign map making?

Thanks.

I have the standard Microsoft programs, however I wanted to make it look better than squares and bubbles. I have The GIMP that I could use.

I'll take a look into those programs and let you know how I turn out.

Thanks.

What sort of map are you after? Is it maps of the terrain itself that you want, the positions of individual buildings, gangways and such like, or is it territory maps?

If it's buildings, you might be able to download architectural plans of buildings - 'modernist' ones might be best - but I scavenge plans from books on archaeology and architecture, guide-books and information leaflets all the time. No end of battles have been fought over St Paul's Cathedral, the City Walls of York, the monastery of Iona, the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao (I think) and even one of Frank LLoyd Wright's houses... without my players being any the wiser.

If it's territories, just get a map of pretty much any US city and mash it up. If you can get info on voting districts or something like that, draw those in. Something designed by a bureaucrat somewherre is gonna be way more nonsensical than anything you could do by looking and drawing shapes

I find tracing or just re-drawing - with a pencil - easier than copying and messing about electronically (I do that for a job, maybe that's why I don't like doing it at home!). But, if you like, scan them, use downloads... the world is your unidentified mollusc!

To make it simple, think Dawn of War-like territories.

Well, I ended up finding an aerial image and drew lines on it.

I'm still writing rules for the map. The red dots are paths of travel from territory to territory. You can't travel to some by a certain route due to obstructions. Each territory will have certain stash opportunities and such such as hiring new gang members, "teleportation" sewers, and other goodies. Once I can find a place where I can upload pdf's I will make it available for download so everyone can check it out.

What do you guys think so far?

Well, I've made the map and I'm starting on the rules. I finally found a place to upload PDF's so you guys can see what I have much easier.

This is only the start of it. I haven't gotten anywhere near to being finished yet.

Let me know what you think.

I am so going to buy up a new Necro gang next payday, go into fast-painting mode, and work on getting my schedule free!
