Would be a bit of a toughie to get all that into one post, but I would recommend you point and click at the following links to serve as a bit of guidance and introduction to Warmachine;

Welcome to Warmachine

This gives a background to the various factions and will give you an idea of which force appeals to you or how you want to play the game.

The Battle College

This is an excellent site and will help when you have chosen your faction. It outlines all the strengths and weaknesses for each unit and character in the game.

When you have chosen your faction, I would recommend picking up a Battle Box, this gives you enough miniatures for a force big enough for your first few games. From here, you add new units, new characters and you find the tactics that suit how you want to play. It took me a while to get where I am with my Cryx and how I play them, but thats the way you should play Warmachine, trying new ideas, new tactics and units. If you get defeated, so what, have a tinker with your list, try some new ways of approaching the game and try again.

Good luck

If you go for Cygnar, get a unit of Gun Mages. A mate of mine swears by them.....
