Default In addition to the two player start box, is there anything else?

I just grabbed the two player starter box (well, it will be here Thursday), and am a bit overwhelmed. In order to play this, is there anything else that I might have overlooked that is essential to playing? I have dice, a large flat surface to play on, paint for painting, etc. etc. But as with 40k, do I need any codex's, or a BRB equivalent?

I see that the box set comes with two armies, an abridged rulebook, and some information on the models. And to clarify, this is a usable rulebook, and these are two complete/usable skirmish armies?

And lastly, what is a good source for fluff on the game? I'm very intrigued by the back stories, but was wondering what a good source of the history and fluff of the armies besides what can be found online and in wikis.

Thanks all!

The rule book is a complete set of rules. The cards for each unit contain all the rules for those models. In terms of sitting down and playing you have two complete armies, they are just a bit different in points cost.

In terms of fluff the army codexs are pretty much fluff books. You don't need them to play the game at all. They do provide most of the units rules and point cists so you can use them to determine your next purchase.

Thank you very much. That's a relief. I like the small army sizes a lot. The books will probably be a future purchase though as I do like to delve into the fluff as much as possible. And fun to read before bed! Haha.

You will also need some tokens of sorts to mark fury/focus, spells animus and effects but those can be made quite easily without much cost. I'd also recommend picking up a faction card deck so that you can proxy models and either lamenate the cards, or get a card holder so you can mark off damage and erase after the game.

Proxying models meaning using a stand-in game piece to represent a model to see how viable it is with my armies build? Still getting used to the general terminology.

Also, for tokens, can those simply be any small object? Such as those glassy bead things people put at the bottom of plant vases? This hobby store sells big bags of those and i was thinking they'd be great for representing wounds and markerlights.

Between the two in the box, I was leaning toward Menoth but after giving Khador some time, I really like the models. I'm definitely drawn toward them now. I bought the Iron Kingdoms core rulebook(figured a different angle might be cool since I already have the Warmachine rulebook) to delve into the fluff deeply to really get a feel for the universe.

If you want more stories, PP also has a line of Novels and Novellas under their brand Skull Island eXpeditions (http://www.skullislandx.com/). The Butcher of Khadov, Instruments of War and the new Into the Storm are great places to start, or Extrodinary Zoology for something fun.

Meanwhile, I'd also like to mention a few resources that could be interesting to you. Firstly Forward Kommander (www.forwardkommander.com) and Gizmo (http://www.engineeringcalculator.net/Gizmo/Gizmo.html) are both WM/H army builders which are pretty nice. Then there's Battle College (http://battlecollege.wikispaces.com) which gives a great overview of all the models in the game.

Finally, there's Warroom and PP Digital - PP's own apps for iTunes and Android. Warroom is not the greatest list builder out there, but it's a great tool for getting access to all the cards to peruse or proxy, and it's only $7 for all a faction's cards, updated with any new units (and errata) till the end of the edition. PP also have a digital reader App which has just been released called PP Digital, for their rule books and magazine (No Quarter).
