Default What did Bauldig eat?

In the Ogre Kingdoms Army Book, Bauldig, soon to become Bauldig Mountaineater, climbed Mount Thug and returned with his skin turning into rock.

So I was wondering what did Bauldig eat when he supposedly entered the heart of the mountain? Seems unlike anything I've heard of before.

A boon of the Great Maw...
He ate something or other, and the Great Maw saw it as a worthy offering and granted Bauldig a gift in return.

We can't really speculate on what exactly it was that he ate since all the information we have is that it was reported as being the "Heart of the Mountain"... which could be almost anything, literal or not...

Personally, if I was writing it I think I would have the story starting with the mountain seeming to posses a malevolent spirit of its own... but then with Bauldig discovering that it was a life mage hidden deep within the mountain who was experimenting with control over the mountain and its environs. As Bauldig consumed the mage he tried a flesh to stone spell to protect himself but his power was mixed mixed into the 'offering' to the Great Maw, for which Bauldig was given the gift of a permanent stone to flesh effect.

The old army book made it sound like a large Stone Troll.

The new one, on the other hand, is a lot more vague.

Aye, they've stripped away some of the story and made him quite a boring figure. But then again they've totally changed my Eyebiters: I have a different symbol, have lost the family character of my tribe and have gone from shrewd/honest 'caravan guard' mercenaries to boring 'smashy raiders'.
... think I'll be using the old book for back stories.

Yeah, love the map, dislike the changes to a lot of the tribes.
