Firstly, it wasn't the Elves who sealed the Gates, they actually remade them. If they sealed the gates, like the Slann, who though their machinations were nigh on infallible, yet hadn't counted on the birth of Slaanesh, which empowered the chaos forces, and the gates fell.

During the Second War against Chaos, Aenarion drew the Sword of Khaine, and along with Indraugnir, battered the Chaos Forces, while Caledor Dragontamer (Greatest Mage, makes Teclis look like a Sideshow magician) created the tempest which drew the Chaos Vortex to the poles, allowing Chaos to seep through, but in such a rate that the world, and other dimension didn't overflow.

With that cleared up, the Dwarf Ancestor God Grimnir forged himself 2 weapons, The Hammer of Fate, and what is thought to be Gotrek's Axe. When he went north, nothing more is known about him, although Daemonslayer has the best insight into what happened - he is thought to either have gone into the wastes by himself (as no body was ever found, and the Chaos forces would have loved to proclaim they have a God as a living standard), or he ascended. Whatever happened to him, it is clear he either failed, OR he has not yet acheived his task. However, he left his wordly items behind him - the two weapons, and that is where Daemonslayer comes in.

It explains in the story that Karag Dum was beset by a Chaos Horde since the Last Great War Against Chaos 200 years previous. Knowing that they could not leave, after The Terror (the Bloodthirster assaulting the citadel) got the smackdown laid down by the High Preist (despite killing him).

The fact that such a weapon could even harm a Daemon showed it was beyond normal power. The Hammer of Fate was held by the High King - in game terms to represent it, use the Master Rune of Flight, and Grudge Rune - 12" Magic Ranged attack hitting on 2's, and causing D3 wounds on a chosen enemy - and the high king gave the late High priests axe to his son, who attempted to flee with certain other members - of which Borek was one.

Borek and the Prince's job was to find the Dwarf forces to help them, but the Chaos Wastes swallowed Karag Dum stopping them from returning, and despite splitting up, only Borek made his way to the Old World. 150 years later, Gotrek, Snorri, Borek, and numerous others attempted to make their way to Karag Dum in armoured trucks, but it failed, and again the forces were scattered. Gotrek was forced to reside in a cave to avoid the beastmen, when he found a dead body with a shiny axe - this turns up to be the Ancestor Axe, and the Dead Prince.

When Gotrek, Snorri and Borek attempted to make their second crossing on Makaissons Airship, this time with Felix in tow, they fulfilled The Terrors prophecy, and despite the heroes effrots, the High King was slain, his heart eaten in front of his still living eyes.

The Dwarven forces are getting smacked around, and Snorri attempts to batter the Bloodthirster with his hand axe and hammer, no effect. Felix gets battered by a Beastman, and finds the discarded hammer of fate, kills the beastman, then attempts to pick up the hammer, which doesn't shift, due to a supernatural force, but by invoking the gods names, despite the major burns it causes to him, throws the hammer, which diverts attention from Gotrek. Gotrek then climbs aboard the daemons back, and kills it, and then picks up the hammer of fate.

The two chain lightning together, and Gotrek becomes an incarnation/avatar of Grimnir.

That's about it, as far as the story is concerned over Grimnir, and the Ancestor Axes.

Unfortunately, only Bill King has managed to successfully scratch a story majorly about a Dwarf - most others are over Elves or Humans.

wow, that retelling of deamonslayer deserves rep! unfortunatly, i can not give you any right now. sorry.

also, in maklith it is suggested that grimnar wandered through the northern gate, and before he returned the elves did whatever they did, and he got trapped in the realm of chaos.

humm, true. This is yet again proof the Orks are smarter the Elves.-Micklez

"A Dwarf"! That 'dwarf' was none other the Grimnir himself! He (according to the book Malekith, as stated by the High King of the Dwarves) entered the realm of Chaos to combat the daemons but was trapped when Caledor created the Vortex.

In a side note, nice summary of Daemonslayer.

Aerith/Aeris Gainsborough: “The current system of servitude is barbaric and inadequate for today's generation. We appeal to the leaders of both the Imperium and the Coalition of Hateful Assholes and Organised Sin to seek to change this for the betterment of all its citizens”

Lorgar: “Guess there was one plot thread we forgot to erase ...” Mortarion nods in agreement, while Ahriman looks on suspiciously.

Aerith/Aeris Gainsborough: “We feel trapped, we feel oppressed. And we urge our governments to release us from these metal boxes-”

Lorgar: “Oh shi-”

Firraveus Carron: Leaping to his feet. “METAL BOXES?!?METAL BOXES!!!THEY RIDE IN METAL BOXES!!!”
