Default Definition of Ghoul or Ghoulish.

Im playing with some fluff ideas for a project that I will be starting soon.

The problem is I find myself needing to define Ghoul, as I want to use the word as part of a pun in a characters name.

I don't know which book ghouls (Guessing VCs) appear in yet alone anything bout them.

So whats the definition of Ghouls in WHF?

Any fluff back ground to show Ghoulish behaviour would be most helpful. Thanks.

in warhammer fantasy a ghoul is a person who along time ago started eating human flesh. over time there desendents turned into fleash eating undead monsters who are very strong and tough.
so basicly, they eat human flesh.i think.

humm, true. This is yet again proof the Orks are smarter the Elves.-Micklez

Ghoul Definition.

You're correct in that they're Vampire Counts. In previous editions, when Bloodlines were everything, they were most prevalent in Necrarch, (The Masters of the Black Art), and the Strigoi (The Bestial), while Lahmia (Lost Kin of the First Vampires), and Blood Dragons (The Martial) were rare to use them, usually as they preferred dealing with the dead, rather than those who were the Grave Robbers.

However, with the advent of 7th Edition Vampires, they've become undead.

In the 6th Edition Vampire Counts army book, there was a short story over how a Skaven Assassin and his Gutter Runners broke into an ancient sewer system, and from there to a Mausoleum. There resided a Strigoi Vampire, who enthralled the Grave Robbers (becoming Ghouls), and the ghouls set upon the Skaven. They kill the Skaven, and eat them. They eat the flesh of those they kill, but don't have issues with digging up the recently (or not so recently) deceased and having a good old gnaw.

i can't really add much more to the description, other than to say that outside of the WH setting Ghouls are Arabic in origin (along with Djinns, Genies and Efrits). undeath is treated very differently in different cultures, and the term is probably not best used to describe Ghouls, but they are not quite living and not quite dead.

the defining feature of a Ghoul though, is that it feeds on dead flesh robbed from graves. this is true in WH aswell.

the Ghoul wood in slyvania was origionally a huge mass of small hamlets, when famine came to the land they took to eating human corpses to stay alive, but then they developed a craving for human flesh and eventually degraded into packs of ghouls, lacking any real kind of social structure except the rule of the strongest, driven by an insatable craving for human flesh, they'll dwell near graveyards and cannabilize the recently buried.

ghouls in general do 4 things

they cannibilize the dead (pretty much anything humanoid)
they breed hard
they eat fast
and they hang around in groups large enough to sink a small boat
