Legion of the Asp
Hi guys. What follows is the background for my Tomb Kings army. I know I said I'd be doing High Elves, but my regular opponent (dirty-dog-) convinced me that Tomb Kings looked so much cooler, so here I am. Enjoy
The Legion of the Asp
During the reign of Lahmizzash, Neferata of Lahmia slew Queen Khalida of Lybaras because she had grown suspicious of the Lahmian Court. As all the world knows, Khalida was the beloved of Nehekara and her loss was a terrible blow. Her subjects mourned her passing and there was great sorrow even in the city of Khemri for the lost of one so fair and wise as she. Now there happened to be a soldier in her guard that had loved her more then most.
When he heard that it was the Queen of Lahmia that had slain her, he gathered an army and led them against the foul queen. The attack was doomed to failure. His forces were outnumbered and unorganised, even with his leadership. His forces were slaughtered, and he fled south with what men he had left to him. Upon their return, broken and wary, they discovered that their Queen had been blessed by the Asp godess and they rejoiced. They stop when they were banished of the city for the attack on Lahmia. They spent years wandering the great kingdom of Nehekara, offering their services to the Kings in order to survive. In time they returned to the east, old and weary. A number of Mortuary Priests, fleeing from overbearing Kings, had joined the army along with the soldiers of many kingdoms. When the soldiers felt their time coming close, they constructed a great underground barracks and were entombed within, to await a time when they would emerge and fight for Nehekara and beloved Khalida once again.
After the Dark One cast his foul magics over the land and awoke those who should still slumber in death, this army also arose. The greatest members of the army had been entombed in the way of the Kings and Princes, and their martial prowess had been undimmed. Their elite were every inch as powerful as they had been in life, but unafraid and steadfast. The common soldiers were well equiped for battle, bearing the weapons that they had so many centuries ago. The Mortuary Priests had now become the undying Liche Priests, well versed in the knowledge of the dead. With his soldiers once more ready for battle, he led his army over the sands to Lybaras.
When he reached the city, he found it in turmoil. Kings and Princes from ages past warred in the streets for dominion. Countless warriors had already been destroyed on both sides, and many more joined them with each passing moment. Then the army of Queen Khalida joined battle. Even the Kings which had been dead hundred of years found it hard to send their minions against her. But they did. Seeing that the army of his beloved Queen was about to be overrun, he led his soldiers towards them. Hacking his way through any warriors that stood between the Queens army and his, he reached their lines just in time. Together, they stood against the tide and eventually the battles died out all together. The army of the Queen had proven victorious. Before returning to her slumber, Queen Khalida revoked the ban and allowed his warriors to stay within the city as it's defenders and restore it to its former glory. This task they did well for over a thousand years, but events were to change their course in a direction unforseen.
1151 years after the awakening, a two-tailed comet was seen in the skies. The Liche Priests still with the army interpreted the sign as a symbol that a new serpent god had entered the world, and that it was preparing to strike at a great enemy. A thought occured to Arhun. He would seek out this new god, and bring it to Lybaras as an offering to the Asp Godess for protecting his Queen. The Liche Priests offered thier blessings and once more his army marched out of Lybaras in service of his Queen.
