A Tale of the throng Brunnison
Durgin Brunnison, keeper of the silver gate, surveyed the orc rabble in front of him with the usual contempt. Orcs had always been a problem for the hold, the silver gate as it was now known was more of a fortress than a dwarf hold. During the days of its founding orcs had poured through the pass from the bad lands trying to get into the fertile land of the empire, Durgin's ancestors however had different ideas. The terrain of the pass was such that only one approach was possible, sheer cliff faces of brittle rock surround the hold so even the most determined climber faces a near impossible climb. So it was once again that greenskins had come and channeled in to the narrow pass the dwarfs had bombarded them with cannon.
Durgin was never a dwarf to sit back and watch his warriors he was covered in sweat after charging into the orc hoarde they had soon routed and as they did so a young dwarf came dashing over to him. The runner was obviously out of breath and obviously from another dwarf hold, he wore the colours of the O Dubhda clan. The runner quickly explained that his lord Snorri O Dubhda had been beset by a vast skaven hoarde before he could finish his message Durgin had shouted orders to gather the army of the silver gate and march north to the aid of his oath brother.
The march north progressed quickly the dwarfs of the silver gate had made this trek many times often for trade reasons or even just a friendly visit. As they travelled Durgin thought to himself about how great the grudge would be had the vile rat men over run his dear friend. Durgin and Snorri had become friends instantly when they had met, it was at the wedding of Durgins daughter, his daughter had married Snorri’s cousin twice removed on his mothers side, Thane Ulli Ranekson, a good dwarf with solid principles. Durgin was a dwarf of principles and so too was Snorri. A great friendship was formed and the two dwarf lords swore to come to the aid of the other in times of need.
Durgins throng reached the hold of O Dubhada quickly moving down the well know halls, they soon found skaven to kill. The quickly butchered through the poorly protected rear of the skaven army and moved into the main hall. Durgin surveyed the battle field quickly he had almost arrived to late there was no time for cannons so he ordered a full charge and ploughed into the rat men. Skaven fell everywhere Durgins axe flew and his hammerer bodyguard crushed and smahed the skaven with there mighty warhammers. Durgin sighted the bammer of the verminous hoarde and moved toward it. The skaven clutching the banner was a large muscled specimin but it was no match for Durgin and his temper his swung his axe one handed the skaven moved to block the blow but missed Durgins fist that smashed into the rat mans skull splintering bone and pulverising brain. Durgin collected the fallen banner and marched to his friends side.
"I couldnt find the damned leader but i brought you this" he threw the skaven banner on the floor and embraced his friend, the look of relief on Snorri's face visible only to his oath brother. " First we will hunt this bastard warlord down then we will find the little grey bastard that took runelord Ardin" Durgin and Snorri spat and clasped hands in agreement and the future of the skaven in the worlds edge mountains took a turn for the worse.
