Default Marble Thunder Hammers

I'm looking for a tutorial on how to paint marble Thunder hammer heads. I read a re-posted tutorial on painting marble but it was on a pillar and was looking for a guide on a smaller scale. And if i can chose the colour, White marble is what im planning on doing but the technique is what im after so anything will help. TY in advance!!!

I've only done marble in school, on walls, since i am that kind of painter at work.

So i don't really know any good way of doing it small scale, my guess is use verythinned out layers next to a super thin line of.... grey i guess.

Try adding red and/or yellow in there too, i added those in school and it looked rather good, although the scale is very different so i don't know.

[btw, your comment = priceless ]

This isn't a tutorial, but you may get some inspiration and a nod in the right direction by checking out Xenobiotics marble-esque patterning here:

you could always message him for further insight

TY guys!
@Klomster - That sounds like what i'm looking to do. Im going to build up the marble to white, then mix Prob astronomican grey with Skull white and water it down and go darker from there towards black. Did you add the yellow and/or red to a white marble pattern?

@Varakir - Beautiful! thats quite similar to what im wanting to do except more cracked. Ill have a play around tomorow on some sprue or something.

TY Big help guys. Ill try and post pics of (hopefully) my success and if it comes off i do my own tutorial once ive done the hammers

it kind of depends of the color marble your aiming for... for white marble i suggest:
basecoat of skull white
sponge on some diluted bleached bone
sponge on less, codex grey, diluted with more water then the bleached bone
add some "veins" with pure codex grey, using a small feather (yes you know, from a bird) will get you a real nice organic effect

never tested this on a small scale though, you might wanna swap the feather with a old detail brush which isnt pointy anymore

I had a go at doing it the way it suggests on Midges link and it turned out really well. It seems that its important to dilute the paints somewhat. Not so much that they are a wash, but enough so it blends in. Leaving the base colour to be seen in some places is crucial otherwise it just looks like poos. I would post pics but no camera to be found.
