Historically accurate? No. It's a fictionalized account of the story, and they do an awesome job of it.

See the following:

Also, Leonidas = Jesus. He's got a thing for basking in light and laying in an suspicious cross shape.
Eh, while that may have been what they intended, Jesus was hardly the first or only sacrificial king figure. Basking in light with your arms held wide in a brave acceptance of fate is hardly limited to Christianity. Much of the Christian mythos borrows heavily from sources far more ancient. In other words, he only = Jesus as much as he equals any other sacrificial king in any religious mythos, of which there are many.

But of course. In all actuality, he was crucified by Xerxes. I'm merely stating that they threw a lot of the stuff into the movie. Just interesting is all.

Actually, many things were historically accurate.

Obviously some isnt, its historical fiction.

But many quotes and many actions are factual.

Sorry if that reply sounded harsh, I did not intend it to. It's kind of funny when you look at it though, this is a story of a King who's told by a divine agent (an oracle) that he will have to sacrifice himself to save his people. Upon making this sacrifice, he's crucified to be made an example of and yet it only manages to steel the resolve of his people who fight and win their freedom. It all sounds very Christian, and yet happened around 480 BC.

This sort of story is even present in 40k. The Eldar use a sacrificial king figure to summon the Avatar, which is intended to steel their people and deliver them safely through battle. The Emporer is a sacrifical king figure as well, who was mortally wounded fighting his fallen angel and yet still serves as the guiding beacon in the dark and as the cheif diety in their Imperial cult.

It really is a timeless tale that anyone can relate to.

Damn you people! It's not out in the UK yet! I think it's released on the 22nd of March! Im such a fan of ancient history, and i love Greece especially (hence the Iron Snakes). Ok so its going to be as historically in-accurate as Braveheart, but who cares!

Damn you again.............................................

People, people.

Its historical FICTION. Its not going to be totally accurate, but i can say with confidence, much of the lines were actual quotes, and many actions are factual.

And beyond that, I can say with TOTAL confidence that is was a damn good movie that I for one WILL be adding to the collection

one thing I want is the ability to split my fire everywhere, it makes no sense that a squad of 10 guard or marines or whatever all have to fire at 1 target with everything, is the guy with the lascannon not smart enough to realize maybe he would be better off firing at the massive tank looming overhead instead of the little man no bigger than a squat running at him, or is that far too complex for the 10yr olds?

to be fair, a proviso should be added to this. Actual quotes are from Herodotus, writing over 50 years after the events. Thus these can easily be considered to already be fictionalised. Remember this is the man that put the infantry (and thats just the infantry) count at 1.7 million men. Some salt please. This goes for the 'factual' actions too.
