850 point DA

I'm trying out a couple of lists, need some advice. At 850 my opponents aren't fielding much mech. Played a SW list that was all infantry which wiped out my dual wing (at 1000pts). Trying to make it a smaller game so we can get a few in. Here goes

HQ
Company Master (PW)

Elite
Deathwing - 2 x TH/SS, 2 x LC, Cyclone w LC

Troops
Tac Squad - Flamer, ML
Tac Squad - Flamer, ML

Heavy
Pred - LC, HB

or

HQ
Company Master (PW)

Elite
Deathwing - 2 x TH/SS, 2 x LC, Cyclone w LC

Troops
Tac Squad - Flamer, ML
Tac Squad - Flamer, ML

Fast
3 x Bikes - 2 x Melta

SW will usually field everyone on foot so wanted some blasts to thin them out a bit. Also vs Tau with a Hammerhead. Thought I might use DWA to take it down quick, with Pred as a back up. The DW will try to get stuck in and disrupt his gunline while the rest move up. I know it's not your usual dualwing, but a few bad saves messed up my day last time. Any thoughts?

Switch for a chaplain (does it cheaper ;) )

Go all TH/SS

Really need transports and one needs a melta.

Heavy
Pred - LC, HB
drop to make up points, maybe replace with something cheap.

Same comments. The tax can do the jobs of the bikes if you give them melta and a rhino. TH/SS makes the DW more survivable after DS, and the Chappy can go for termie armour if you have the points.

As Spanner posted above change the Terminators to TT/SS you've got no real way to move them around, and it increases their resilience.

A CM is better than a chap when he is there to bolster a non-fearless army's leadership.

DWA will do nothing but get your terminators killed. It is a terrible ability, and one that should never be used.... If you still insist upon trying to kill them yourself, you are going to have to run them into cover to protect them from shooting/assaults. Which invalidates using the crappy rule.

Remember that a DW terminator squad has the same survivability as a 10 man tact squad for the same points, and the same amount of shooting. Terminators do better in CC which is where you want them in most cases.

Your first list isn't very mobile, and it is the DA codex so you are going to be out-shot by every other codex for less points.

If you want a fast hard hitting army try the RW. Drop the terminators, and load up on bikes with plasma. Sure, you are likely to kill your own guys but it is the high rate of fire.

You could go with DA veterans, or a command squad via DP to drop behind your Opponent's lines to slow his army down.

"NOBODY expects the Deathwing Assaulting Fortress of Redemption! Our chief weapon is surprise...surprise and fear...fear and surprise.... Our two weapons are fear and surprise...and ruthless efficiency.... Our *three* weapons are fear, surprise, and ruthless efficiency...and an almost fanatical devotion to the Lion.... Our *four*...no... *Amongst* our weapons.... Amongst our weaponry...are such elements as fear, surprise.... I'll come in again."
