w/ 2x Lascannons, 3x Heavy Bolters
[155]

[1500]

Just giving myself some options at 1500. I am dead set on my prior list with the Thunderwolf Cavalry, but I needed some variety. This goes for a cheap HQ and a ton of troops. The one big option is to go for more Long Fangs over the Scouts. Gives me better ranged support, but the Scouts give me that whole fear factor thing.

Thoughts?

Hmm, spamtastic

I would say that the rune priest makes the better cheap character and gives that much capacity to deal with nasty things- throw on JofWW and Stormcaller and bunch your rhinos and you'll be getting a 5+ cover on everything with the capability of easily mowing down GUOs or fexs plus that gives you Ld10 rather then fearless for his unit (ATSKNF means fearless is always worse then just taking morale checks unless the enemy can shephard you off the board.. and you shouldnt be failing many pinning checks at Ld10 unless facing a nuke choir).

Im not a fan of your wolf scout set up for direct usefulness- so long as all you want the for it the "**** the scouts are comming" factor then they're great.
They'll kick butt vs most infantry units out there and will shread tank units (perfect weapon vs units of guard tanks- killing basilisks in squadrons on a 2+) but are too expensive to throw away for a tank kill and wont last long enough to beat more then 1 enemy unit (and at I4 you'll probably take some serious casualitites vs most enemies)

Sending the Scouts after an HQ unit could make it worth their effort. Personally I would grab a few more melta/combi melta shots, but against guard type armies which need their HQs for maximum effectiveness or against armies built around one tooled up character (thinking chaos here) etc using the scouts as a throw away unit could actually work out.

I agree take the rune priest for a one off character, the wolf priest with upgrades is better, without I say go for the rune.

I like the troops, very useful to have alot especially given that GH can slug it out in CC I applaud giving them the melta treatment. Keeps em flexible.

All That is Gold Does Not Glitter
All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.

Rune Priests do not have an invulnerable save and that bugs the crap out of me. Of course, I did leave it pretty open for swapping. JotWW are a must, but Storm Caller says that "he and all friendly squads within 6" benefit from a 5+ cover save." Not sure it does anything for vehicles, but I may be reading into it a bit too much.

As for the Scouts, I am just unsure about their place. I love the idea, but I am not sure they are worth the points. For less, I can get another Long Fang squad, which gives me a stronger long-range firebase. It also would free up a few points to upgrade either Priest that I choose to run.

I would think about cutting your wolf scout unit and replacing it with 2... 1 with meltagun and meltabombs and the other for CC, each is individually cheap enough to suicide it for a kill and both are murderous in their own special field.

BoLS did a SW FAQ that says that stormcaller affects vehicles because 'squad' is never defined- I would also agree with them that it affects everthing since it never says 'infantry' or anything like.

I wouldn't really use BoLS as a source for my rules and tactics. I agree with it affecting vehicles, but still.

im pretty sure it effects vehicles (I have read the codex) but why the obsession with Jaws there Tim/steve?

Living Lighting > JotW until your close.

Living lightning Im pretty sure is a shooting attack, unlimited range, d3 str 9 hits. if thats not evil as all hell, I dont know what is. (by the way, its MODEL target if i remember correctly)

the key to every good DE army makeup. Always have a backup plan, try to take everything in multiples, and use everything you can to your advantage, being a sneaky bastard within the rules, as it were.

living lightning is D6 S7 AP5 shots... which is pretty ignorable. If Im out of 24" to use JotWW then I wont be shoooting anyway- Ill be in a rhino going 12" or running my slow ass off.
I mathhammered Jaws- its better at killing I5+ characters then a plasmagun (assuming the plasmagun can allocate all its wounds to the character)... being able to snipe out the PW/PF/sgt/special/heavy weapon from an enemy unit is awesome... especially if it happens to be against orcs/nurgle/fex

stormcaller effects "friendly squads within 6"..."

I wouldnt use the rules from BoLS as gospel.. but they have been drawn up by experienced gamers who have discussed and thought about the rules, so in the absence of a GW FAQ I'll use their 'suggestions' ... mostly because they are a neutral source (rather then just playing what the SW player want to just because the other player doesnt know the SW codex).

OR:

[155]

(6) Long Fangs
w/ 2x Lascannon, 3x Heavy Bolters

[1492]

So, I have those options. The former is 15 Missiles at 6 targets, which is just...mean. The latter is 27 HB shots and 6 Lascannon shots at 6 targets, which is also mean. Spamtacular list, I know, but I like to be competative.

Thoughts?
