Default Border Patrol Space Marines (500 Points)

This is my first posting of an army, having only played one game, so please don't kill me, XD
Anyway, I'm not sure if Boarder Patrol is widely recognised or just a local club thing, so Ill post the rules we do just in case (or if there are any differences)

Army Limitations
Armies are no more than 500 points
You must have two Troops choices
You may have one HQ choice but no more than one
You may spend the remaining points from anywhere in the Codex
No Special Characters
No 2+ saves
No models with more than 2 wounds
No vehicles with a Total Armour value of greater that 33. This is calculated by adding the Front,
Side and Rear armour numbers. (only count the Side once)
No Ordnance weapons
No specialist Army Lists
Games at the School League Finals will be played using one of the Scenarios in this pack
Patrol Clash games should, ideally be played on a 4 x 4 area

So yeah. This is the team I am using for it- (or plan to)

1 10 man tactical squad all with boltguns but, one Flamer, one Missile Launcher, Sergeant has bolt pistol + Chainsword (170 points)
1 razorback with twin linked las-cannon (40+35 points)
1 5 man Assault Squad(All regular Bolt Pistol and Chainsword choices) (100 points)
1 9 man tactical squad all with boltguns Sergeant has bolt pistol + Chainsword (170 points)

499/total

So yeah, if anyone has any changes or things I should buy, that would be greatly appriciated ^^
I want to buy a Librarian(sp) just becuase I love magical things, but i'm not sure if it would work, or the best one to get (I'm not sure if Staff and Book do much >.>)
Many thanks for your time and comments,
Many thanks Ras

WOW you've got a real headache in this set up- your best options of vindicators and dreads have gone. I think that any orc armies you meet are just gonna be laughing. At 500pts of orcs I would simply take 2 boys units of 30 boys a piece- thats probably what you need to be preparing to fight (and lost of space marine lists.. they arent such a terror though).

I can't really see how SM can beat that many orcs in a hoard- flamers are a must, and I would go with missile launchers and combat squad them... probably use basic razorbacks to transport them and with the 80 points left over add in a couple of attack bikes for some added fire support and mobility. With these restrictions you dont need any heavy weapons beond the missile launchers, and heavy bolters will pwn most enemies.

so the list-

210- 10 Tacs, flamer, missile launcher
- razorback (TL-HB)
210- 10 Tacs, flamer, missile launcher
- razorback (TL-HB)
40- attack bike, heavy bolter
40- attack bike, heavy bolter

Leave the ML combat squads back and send everything else to meet shooty armies, or waiting in the razorback to recieve assaulty armies. At range you have 2ML and 12HB shots a turn- probably better then what most other armies will be sending your way.
If you face orcs try to stay out of their attack range (using HB and ML to chip away at them), if you cant avoid them make sure you charge them- use flamers and bolt pistols with the tacs and charge home: the orcs are 50% less damaging on defense and you have almost twice as many attacks- thats a 4* bonus for you over defending.
If needbe use a bike to block the advance of nasty assault squads- sacrifice the 40pts to save your tacs.

I love these rules, i just put 2 ravagers wi 6 dissies between them and 13warriors wi 2 lances and 14 warriors wi 2 splinter cannons, i used this at the school leugue and owned.
My advice is in these rules you arnt gonna get more than armour 12 on the front and a ML can deal with that , you are mainly gonna be playing infantry so i suggest u have a twin linked heavy bolter on ya razorback.

We wo mearly stating some of the other lists you may face so that you could build a list that would work against any army.

I'd recommend losing the Lascannons on the razorback, actually, I'd lose the Razorback. Your not gonna need lascannons in that size game and I'd recommned two transports if you choose anything

I ran a 500 pts space marine list with the old rules, here it is
Unit Pts Equipment Total Pts
HQ
Captain - Power Weapon, Bolt Pistol, Terminator Honours, Artificier Armour
Pts: 111

Heavy Support
6 Devastators - 4 Missile Launchers
Pts: 170

Troops
6 Marines - 2 Plasma guns
Pts: 110

Troops
6 Marines - 2 Plasma guns
Pts: 110

Total army pts 501

Obviously this is no longer valid so I had a think and came up with this

Troops: 10 Marines - Missile Launcher and Flamer
Pts: 170

Troops: 10 Marines - Missile Launcher and Flamer
Pts: 170

Heavy Support: 5 Devastators - 4 Missile Launchers
Pts: 150

Total Pts: 490

That way you've got 25 marines and enough firepower to annihilate pretty much anything you come into contact with, you should even be able to take on orks. Plus you've got 10 pts to play around with so maybe change some weapons around. Anyway, thats just my opinion. It's your army.

P.S. Some of the point values may be wrong, I haven't got my codex on me.
