Default 2k Raven Guard, trying something new

Considering what I'm seeing as the absolute lack of Raven Guard lists from you Heretics I decided I might try it out on my gaming group next time I see them.

HQ
Shadow Captain Kayvaan Shrike

Elites
Vanguard Veteran Squad (5 man)
-x5 Storm Shields
-x5 Bolt pistols
-x4 Power Weapons
-x1 Relic Blade
-x5 Jumppacks

Troops
Scout Squad (5 man)
-x5 Camo cloaks
-x4 Sniper Rifles
-Heavy Bolter w/ Hellfire Rounds

Tactical Squad (5 man)
-Razorback w/ TL Lascannon and storm bolter
-Plasmagun

-Vet Sarge w/ Combi-Plas

Tactical Squad (5 man)
-Razorbck w/ TL Lascannon and storm bolter
-Plasmagun

-Vet Sarge w/ Combi-Plas

-Razorback w/ TL Lascannon and storm bolter
-Plasmagun
-Vet Sarge w/ Combi-Plas

Fast Attack
Assault Squad (10 man)
-Vet Sarge w/ PW, Combat Shield, and Melta bombs

Assault Squad (10 man)
-Vet Sarge w/ PW, Combat Shield, and Melta bombs

Assault Squad (10 man)
-Vet Sarge w/ PW, Combat Shield, and Melta bombs

Heavy Support
Stormraven
-TL Multi-Meltas
-TL Assault Cannon
-Locator Beacon

Thunderfire Cannon

Total:1997pts

Tactics: Vanguard and Shrike in the Stormraven to come in and land in the middle of the enemy and wreck face. Thunderfire sits back and provides cover fire, protected by scout squad, both hiding in bumped up cover. Razorbacks move up the field separately doing a three pronged strike (one up the right flank, one up the middle and one up the left flank). Assault squads move up behind the razorbacks to get close enough to assault. Tactical Squads get out and provide cover for Assault squads when in range.

Suggestions? Thoughts? Criticism?

Red is reserved for the staff, try some nice green instead - darkreever

Personally I don't use him myself, but a decent character overall. Whatever squad you put him in it might be a good idea to back him up with an ap2 weapon or two since he does lack that.

Rather expensive for five power armoured marines on foot. I'd honestly recommend dropping two or three of the storm shields and picking up jump packs and a sixth veteran. If you dropped two shields and a power weapon, picked up an extra guy and gave them all jump packs, then it would only run you two more points that this setup.

I'd recommend a missile launcher here, meshes a bit better with the sniper rifles.

I'm personally not at all a fan of razorspam elements. And if your going the twin linked lascannon route than melta's are not a good fit seeing as those vehicles never want to get closer while the melta's do. Plasma is more likely a better buy for these guys.

If your going to be moving these up, then consider twin linked plasmaguns and lascannon over twin las.

With no upgrades beyond whats on the sergeant, why bother bulking up to ten strong? If you drop each one down to eight you retain similar survivability while gaining points for use elsewhere.

I don't think you need the extra armour on this guy, despite only having medium armour its a tough nut to crack for the most part.

I'd get this a drop pod (with deathwind) if possible. Not to put it into and pod down, just to bring down a pod with another gun.

gotta agree with this they are expensive unit and need jump packs, i run my 5 man squad as 1 with storm shield and thunder hammer, 2x twin lighting claws and 2 normal guys, there really effective with shrike and his ability to to infiltrate and also under shrikes rules he can only join units of jump infantry ( see, but remain unseen rule pg 113 marine dex) so the squad will need jump packs to join him
the squad would have to stay a 5 man squad tho with shrike if they want to go in the storm raven, as it can only hold 12 models and i think the jump infantry take up 2 slots each, could be wrong tho.

Big problem with the no jump packs?
Sorry about that when I was putting up the roster I forgot to write that in there.
Check out the new edits.
@darkreever - I can see the tactics behind your suggestions and thank you for pointing out the error in my list. I intend for those Sternguard to all have power axes (You're right about that AP2, the axes are just the cheaper alternative to powerfists and thunderhammers). Also though I've seen a lot space marines die because everyone and their brother seems to be carrying Ap3 or lower weapons these days mostly because of me since I play a IG regularly, so Stormsheilds are a must. Those scouts aren't actually there to hurt vehicles they are more there for the monstrous creature takedowns by poison and sniper rifles considering the alternative of using one of my assault squads to do the job. And keeping those Assault squads at 10 strong is a good way to kill something, 31 attacks on the charge 4 of them being from a power weapon is nothing to sneeze at versus 25 at 8 man strong? Sometimes 6 extra hits can turn the tide of an assault, but you know that.
@raven_jim - thanks =)
@kickboxerdog - you are correct sir about the transport rules, the Stormraven can only carry 6 Jump pack models.
