Default Vulkan Bike Army 1750 help.

I've probably come up with about ten different variations on this list. But I think this is the one I've settled on. I would like some more input from regular players before I finish the army build.

190 Vulkan
195 Captain (Bike, A Armor, TH, SS)
245 5x Command Squad (Bikes, 4x Meltagun)
-630

220 6x Bike Squad (2x plas, MM AttBike)
220 6x Bike Squad (2x plas, MM AttBike)
220 6x Bike Squad (2x plas, MM AttBike)
175 10x Tactical Squad (Flamer, Plascannon)
-835

85 Whirlwind

100 2x MM AttBikes

100 Aegis Defense Line (Quad-gun)

=1750

Build a man a fire, he will be warm for a day.
Set a man on fire, he will be warm the rest of his life.

I normally play Dark Angels but don't you need two troop choices to even make this game allowed?

The Captain is on a bike. He makes bikers troops, in the Space Marine codex.

so a few issues i have.
the whirlwind will be no good on turn 2/3 as you be dropping it close to your own guys

I would drop the extra attack bikes and the whirlwind and put in some autocannon lascannon preds. or vindicators but same problem with the whirlwind.
if you set on the whirlwind swap for the thunderfire cannon it better toughness will last longer and be more of a pain for your opponent. but its hard to know what your strategy is.

I was just going to use the Whirlwind for anti-horde. I may swap it for a razorback w/ TLAC. As far as strategy? Ride around and shoot shit is about as far as I've gotten.

ok then maybe 2 thunderfire cannons would suit you better harder to kill, the razor backs will die quite quickly, as for riding around shooting things the bike are set up for anti meq the thunder fire cannon will help with the troops. you will have to watch out for leader ship tests on the small units only need to lose one per turn and you could find you bike going backwards and forwards.
so put a t/f cannon in the agis and bolster it now it give a 3++ and then put the other one on the other side of the table do the same. that will give you 60" of cross fire and you bikes can go up the middle.

I like what you've got going on here.

I'd drop the Tac squad, and go with some Devastators - behind the Aegis line.
One trick I saw once, and like a lot - is to bring one extra Devastator. He wont bring a heavy weapon, so you throw him on the Aegis weapon. The sarge can use the Signum on him to get your Aegis weapon BS5.

Plus, if ya do - there's some more Multi-Meltas.

Instead of the artillary, I'd go with with a drop-pod of Sternguard. They can rock some flamers and meltas to jive with Vulkan. If not a drop pod, then Las-Plas razorback (my preferred, cause twin-linked Plasma is awesome, and that Las-cannon isn't something to be ignored.)

If you mechanize the sternguard, then bring Vulkan with them.

If not: there is always a good ol fashoned
Venerable Dread - with Multi-Melta and Flamer (and CCW). If you use the forge-world assault-vehicle drop pod, then it can assault out of dropping.

you could drop a bike squad fill out the other 2. Take the plasma off the regular bikes and give them melta guns. I know every one is going plasma heavy so if you want plasma I would put them on the command squad that way if you roll get hot and fail the save you get feel no pain. I run my bike command squad all storm shields 1 t.h. and 3 power swords. You could also drop the whirlwind and 2 attack bikes for land speeders give 1 rocket and heavy bolter the other heavy flamers or heavy flamer and heavy bolter.

Love the ideas guys! Sadly points wise I don't think I can swing Sternguard or Ven dreads.

I did love the ideas about boosting my bike squads and using devastators. I was worried for a little while about the quad-gun and the heavy weapons having to fire at the same target, but then remembered that the quad has interceptor. So that saved me some points and I used them to get 3x Plasma Cannons.

I know the strategy seems a little off the norm. I wanted to use my command squad as a fast and resilient melta force instead of a CC unit. Shoot first, CC last. And with 4 twin-linked meltas I think they can take out most "elite" squads. Especially terminators.

That's mainly what the list is about. Stomping Paladins and Death/Logan wing lists while still being versatile enough to keep pace with other builds. Here's the tentative updated version.

Vulkan Bike Army
190 Vulkan
195 Captain (Bike, A Armor, TH, SS)
245 Command Squad (Bikes, 4x Meltagun)
-630

255 Bike Squad (6x bikes, 1x MM AttBike, 2x Plas, Combi-Flamer)
255 Bike Squad (6x bikes, 1x MM AttBike, 2x Plas, Combi-Flamer)
255 Bike Squad (6x bikes, 1x MM AttBike, 2x Plas, Combi-Flamer)
-765

165 5x Dev Squad (3x Plascannon)

90 2x AttBike (1x HB, 1x MM)

100 Aegis Defense Line (Quad-gun)

=1750

Other then the plasma's being "out of theme" for the flamers/meltas of the rest of the Vulkan Boosted goodness - yer goood.

(plus, I'm peronally not a fan of PlasmaCannons, because I'm horrible about hitting my own guys with Template Drift)
