Default New and improved 1000 pt skaven

I have updated my list and added nearly everything I could that was recommended. The only thing I wasn't sure about was whether or not I should give my clanrats spears and shields, or both, or neither? Anyways here goes.

HQ:

Warlock Engineer (Level 2 wizard) 100 pts

Core:

36 X Clanrats, Full command 164 pts
36 X Clanrats, Full command 164 pts

Special:

18 X Plague Monks (Full command or no?) 126 pts

3 X Warplock Jezzails (sharpshooters or not?) 60 pts

3 X Rat Ogres with 2 X packmasters 136 pts

Rare:

Hell Pit abomination 235 pts

Total: 985 points

So I also have about 20 points worth I can give in magic items to the warlock engineer. All help is appreciated, Thanks!

I don't think you can have that many packmasters for those rat ogres. I do believe they are 1 packmaster per 2 ogres.

Also, you might as well not bother with the plaguemonks in that low numbers. Those points are better spend on a warlord then for a real Ld bubble. Just that 1 engineer doesn't seem right. A miscast will also leave you boned and your whole army will be running for the hills soon.

At 1000 points a warlock engineer should be ok.

I am wondering why the strange numbers though. Why 36 clan rats per unit?
Why 18 plague monks? You could run 20 in a 1000 point game just and do well.

As for equipment you can't go wrong with warp energy condenser for the engineer.

I'd recommend shields on the clanrats for 6+ parry save in close combat.

You really need a battle standard bearer for your army as skaven leadership is poor at best and the chance to re roll a failed leadership test is invaluable and for 80 points (cost of chieftan plus BSB upgrade)

I'd drop the plague monks for the BSB (above) and another Rat Ogre so it'll be 4 Rat Ogres and 2 Pack Masters and should leave you with 20 points to spend, i'd look at getting a ward save on your bsb so talisman of protection, plus I really like the sword of corruption (enemy characters become stupid after suffing unsaved wound) so thats more or less your points spent

HQ:

Warlock Engineer level 2 wizard, talisman of protection 130 pts
Chieftain, BSB Sword of corruption 105 pts

Core:

40 X Clanrats, Shields 180 pts
40 X Clanrats, Shields 180 pts

Special:

4 X Rat Ogres w/ 2 Packmasters 176 pts
3 X Warplock Jezzails 60 pts

Rare:

DoomWheel 150 pts

Total: 981 pts

Not really sure what the last 20 or so will go to

Command groups for your infantry most likely. Never, ever leave home without standard bearer and musician for your troops. You can shave off a few points by cutting 2 clanrats, because I assume your heroes will use them as bunkers?

I'd only use sword of corruption if you are going to tool up a character to take on other heroes or monsters. I think you'll want to avoid challenges with your BSB through verminous valour however.

Alright here is what I think should be the right list. I hope it's competitive but since I haven't played skaven much I can't say whether it would be or not.

HQ:

Warlock Engineer, level 2 wizard, Talisman of Protection 115 points

Chieftain, BSB 70 points

Core:

40 Clanrats with Shields and Chieftain, Musician 180 points
(Warpfire thrower) 70 points

40 Clanrats with Shields, Standard Bearer/Musician and Warlock Engineer 188 points
(Poison Wind Mortar) 65 points

40 Slaves, Musician 82 points

Rare:

Hell Pit Abomination 235 Points

Total: 1005 points
