Icon Tip for Base Foliage

I was putting some finishing touches to some scenery and thought that I needed more than just green for moss.

so I looked at what I had to hand and came across Rolling Tobacco.

it looks really good and has a real natural look to it.

have a look at my army for this affect if you want to see.. 1st Death Company

if there are any tips out there plz feel free to put them to me.

I would worry about it decaying as it ages. How long have you had it on the bases?

forgot to mention I coated it in pva first, then when im done spray the model with a matt protective coat.

this stops the air getting to it preventing decaying.

and its been on fro about 3 months no..

its working pretty well

Have you got a link for that, I'd be very interested to see it.

I just checked out the army and i like the look it gives to the terrain. However i would recommend you avoid using cardboard for basing scenery. Spend a little money for some foamboard, or balsam if you have the cash for it as it gives you a much better look once finished and will not show the corrugation.

I'm not 100% sure it would work on tobacco, but you could try Glycerin.

I use it to preserve moss and small plants for basing - the glycerin replaces the moisture in the plant and preserves it, but doesn't alter the texture or the flexibility.

I did a tutorial for it here: https://www.heresy-online.net/forums/...light=glycerin

Whether it works or not you'd have to try it and see - the tobacco idea itself is great though, I like the way it looks on your scenery and it's always easy to come by, nice work!
