Default Need help with basing my orks

Well i have a question to you guys now. If you look at my little painting blog Da Golden Waaagh!! . Now that you've seen my first model with the new paint sceme what would ideas for a complementary basing that could go with them?

I am currently pondering the idea of having gaurd related casualties and debry but on what? Sand base? City fight?

With a yellow scheme I would avoid a traditional desert base as a little contrast helps make models pop.

How much effort do you want to put in? Urban decay would set off a bright scheme very well but is quite labour intensive to do well over a large army.

Another consideration is the fluff/background of your Waaagh; What planet did it start on or was it mostly a Rok/spaceborn army?

Rusted deckplates might be a good base idea...

Well as to the ammount of effort planning to put a lot into this army, I now can paint well for the first time so may as well do some awsome basing sceme. But don't have much experience. With basing of my models in the past I've done not much more that a flat colour or two. The idea of a dark colour would be a decent idea I think, either some city scape or the space ship/rok. How would you do the city scape? Get some of the GW ruins and cut them up?

Throwing. Another idea what would the thoughts on a dark swampy theme? That's another one I was thinking of

dark and swampy is what i have planned as well... someone pointed me to this...
http://www.coloureddust.com.pl/2013/...ake-swamp.html do a couple testers to find the right depth/color and you should be good to go... also idk if anyone has ever tried it but scrap roofing shingles might work well for a more rocky dark terrain plus they would hold up well

If you do go for urban bases, a good starting point would be an asphalt effect: texture with sand, paint black, drybrush with darkish grey. If you have a steady hand you could add road markings to a few.

While complex bases can look great, it is good if they not compete with the model. I suggest avoiding over cluttering bases for most models: have one or two models in each unit with a larger item (broken lamp-post/cow skull/sunken object depending on theme) and the rest with a lower level of detail.

I'd have a look at the deamonscape website...they do a lot of resin bases and have ranges for swamp and paved....might make it easier, then you would only need to work on the actual paint scheme.

Doing some work with the basing havnt got much down on the bases yet, been planing and also stealing some sand from the beach then put it through a fine sive.

But thinking what colour should the road markings be? White? Yellow? Something different from the regular colours I've seen around

If you want people to recognize them AS road markings, you'll have to stick with yellow and/or white, as those are the colors that headlights pick up the best. As you already have yellow on the models, I suggest white...
