: Scarvus Laerion
: 153 years
Chapter of Origin
: Raven Guard
Type of Marine
: Upon the hive world of Kiavahr, at a young age Scarvus quickly found out that silence and vigilance were key to survival in such a place. However, unlike other that turned to gangs for survival he had no trouble playing as the quiet and watchful one, to the point where it eventually consumed him. As a result, this trait has stayed with him all throughout his service in the Raven Guard. Due to his incredibly reserved nature, his social demeanor has deteriorated to the point where he can sometimes find it hard to simply talk to a fellow battle brother, and especially to those he considers to be lower than him such as civilians, to which they only receive simple gestures or an emotionless yet judgmental stare.
Unlike most of his previous battle brothers that had adopted the hit and run lightning tactics, Scarvus is much more devoted towards the other strategy his former chapter favours; stealth and patience. Just like his silent disposition, this too has become a part of his core behaviour. When he's not moving for an urgent purpose, Scarvus practices the unique "wraith-slipping" technique the rest of his old battle brothers all learnt whilst still Neophytes. This made many of those he had worked with uneasy, since it can be nigh-impossible to tell whether he is nearby or not. Tensions have been particularly high in the rare occasions when he has been forced to work with those in the White Scars chapter.
: Scarvus stands at 7 feet tall and has a much more slender build than his fellow Astarte. Like all of those indoctrinated into the Raven Guard, Scarvus bares the signature pure black eyes that rival the dark abyss of the void, and in complete contrast to that deathly white skin which is also a characteristic caused by his gene-seed. His hair, which also sports the same Abyssal black of hie eyes, is kept very short, but not enough for it to be stubble.
Regardless of his long years of service, he has remained relatively free of scars thanks to his style of fighting, however has a single large one down the left hand side of his face after a close encounter with an Eldar Howling Banshee. This leaves his complexion almost completely pure, yet the signs of his previous conquests are still present.
: The start of Scarvus' life was difficult and constantly in strife. Being born in the lower sections of Kiavahr's massive city meant that death was always a looming threat. He managed to stay out of the way of any gangs, and ended up cutting most ties with his friends and slipping into the darker and concealed places of the city, and thus avoiding any severe consequences. He was caught at the age of 15 however and taken to the aspirant trials, where he managed to pass and successfully became a Neophyte, and then later a scout. It was as a scout when his reputation within the Raven Guard began.
Scarvus soon found that his aim was considerably better than most of his peers, and when it came to sniping he was among the best. Since the Raven Guard heavily rely on it's scout marines, Scarvus saw a lot of action during this time and developed his aim much further, taking out even the most thickly armored targets with but a single shot. Scarvus often found himself pitted against almost every different type of xeno the Imperium had encountered, and through first hand experience via observation of the different species, he learned an assortment of different ways in which to quickly and efficiently dispose of the enemies of mankind.
One of his most memorable deeds was whilst clearing out an Ork infestation on the space hulk 'Light of Resolve'. Upon finding an alternative route that lead behind enemy lines, him and the rest of his squad were cut off and forced to push further into areas under the control of the green skins. Finally cornered and pinned down with the rest of his squad injured, Scarvus used the last of their explosive ordinance to block off several tunnels and access points to their position, meaning the green tide could only approach from two areas. By using what remaining sniper ammunition they had, Scarvus single handedly and successfully held his ground against the Orks for weeks by performing guerrilla tactics to thin their numbers, disrupt enemy communications, destroy supply lines and assassinate their commanders. It was said by the rest of his squad that no living Ork made it within 70 meters of their position without it being taken down by one precise shot.
It was this and his repeated encounters with the other alien species that caught the attention of the Deathwatch. Upon becoming a fully fledged space marine, he continued his line of service until he was eventually promoted to the rank of sergeant. Upon this promotion he was given a Power Sword and Plasma Pistol as a sign of this promotion, however Scarvus still preferred to use his Stalker Pattern Bolter instead. A few short months after his promotion, Scarvus was invited to join the ranks of the Deathwatch and immediately accepted, to not only serve the Imperium but to also further his battle prowess and aim.
: Because of the events that transpired at Isstvan V, like all Raven Guard he uses a variety of different pieces of Armour, yet it is mainly Mark VI, Corvus Armour. However, the chest piece and right shoulder guard have been switched out for Mark 7 Armour after the original pieces were irreparable damaged from The Drop Site Massacre. The left shoulder guard used to be the studded ceramite design of the Mark VI before being changed to the signature Deathwatch guard.
