Default Leman russ convertion help

I'm trying to convert some of my old leman russ tanks to laser destroyers or variants there of.
now I'm making my own barrels, because screw buy the FW kits.
Just looking for any tips from people who are more familiar with conversions.

What Im' looking for help wih is.
How can I make the gun look more like the laser destroyer.
And how can I make the tank look more like it is housing a large engine/batteries or larger magazine.

Anyways, this is what I'v got atm.
the rubber bands are there holding it together as I'm outa blue tac

I'd say using plasticard and trying to replicate the planes of the laser destroyer's barrel the best you can is your best bet there. Plasticard boxes and exhaust would help give the illusion it's got a lot more in it than a standard body, maybe blocking off the side of the hull that's got the barrel on it.

So it's more asymetrical. Like imagine if the area at the rear of the tank, directly behind the barrel was pushed out a little bit more to accommodate more space for the breach inside. Do you get me or am I just not making any sense haha

Wow, i literally finished one of these a couple of days ago.

The rear body has been extended with plasticard and the rear section of the land raider hull to give it some more vents. The side gubbins are from a sentinel iirc. The front is a classic vindicator section with the cannon made out of piping, one of the battlefield terrain crate "barrels" and the end of a searchlight. Parts of the hull have been reshaped with plasticard or plastic offcuts.

My advice from where you currently are is to beef up the housing that the laser destroyer is sittin in, either by looking at vindi mountings on a bits site or by building it up with plasticard instead of using the regular leman russ hull mount. the top hatch looks cool, i would leave it how it is. Add some kind of wiring or vents to either the rear section or the gaps left by the sponsons. Extend the rear with plasticard of venting from aother vehicle if you have it, make it seem like the beast will need to let off some serious steam. Add some variety to the width of the gun barrel, whilst it doesn't have to match the FW model exactly, flat barrels have a habit of looking like artillery gun barrels and always seem to look out of place on energy weapons.
